hey guys,
I've been working on a guitar for the past 8 years, getting all the best guitarists out there on her. I've come a long way but I still have alot further to go. Now it's mostly down to those who are retired/don't tour and the notoriously difficult guys - Page, Clapton, etc.
All I'm trying to do if create the best account of guitar history out there (not an easy task I know.) I had no idea getting a guitar signed was way harder than everything else. So, I'm throwing this out there to anyone whose ever scored a legend like Angus, Eric, Carlos, Eddie, etc. what your experience was. Or if anyone's got a good suggestion, I could use it I'm sure. The other day I tried to get Prince and it didn't happen at all. I've missed alot of key guys but I've alot been lucky too so I just gotta keep that in mind and keep on truckin'.

So far I'm up to 130 names. Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons, B.B. King, Robbie Robertson, Ace Frehley, Chuck Berry, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Slash, Ritchie Blackmore, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Lou Reed, Les Paul, David Byrne, Dickey Betts, a bunch of others. Dave Mustaine was the last guy I got and it took me five tries at him.
just picked up nile rodgers and jose feliciano
Your biggest issue will be their belief that you will end up selling it. Thus, they won't sign or you will have a really hard time getting them to sign it.
Slash is very easy to get a signature from. He signs after many shows at smaller venues when he is touring on his own. Page will be very hard to get. He likes to tell people he doesn't do that anymore.
Good luck.
Slash took me a while to get but I finally got him last year that way. I have no idea how I'm gonna get Page to do it but I've already made it further than I ever thought. Only time will tell I guess.
Prince is impossible. He does not sign any autograph now.
So I found out. I made it backstage and everything. This bald dude totally shut me down.
I will tell you this. Don't try. Here's why.
First, you are losing the opportunity to get OTHER things signed. All the names you listed, I've had friends turned down by, and some I've been turned down by. Clapton, Page, Beck...almost never sign. And people that are good signers, USUALLY DO NOT sign, when a guitar is placed in front of them.
Let me tell you about my friend Doug. Has lots of legends on three different guitars. He is ALWAYS turned down, while they gladly sign my CD, and he's left with his di...I mean, axe in his hand, and a sharpie in the other. He talked the late Bo Diddley into signing, when Bo said "You're gonna sell this," and he said "I'm a history teacher" (which is true). "I like to show this guitar to my classes, and tell the kids about the various guitarists. What do you think...I got all these people all over it, and now I'm waiting for you to sign it, to sell it." Bo didn't buy it, but grabbed the guitar angrily, and signed it anyway. DOn't waste your time, or you'll end up frustrated.
Maybe not the most technical player but he influenced The Clash so much they had him open for them in '79. He belongs on any guitar with Clapton, Page, Beck, and SRV. The story of the guitar can't be told without him being a part of it from the 50's forward.
Hey Will - If you don't like the Clash that's on you. Obviously, you side with David Lee Roth and view them with spite. Reminds me of the long speech Dave gave about the Clash and putting them down at the US Festival. Dave all hammered spouting his wisdom..man, that's funny. BTW, Bo opened for The Stones, that little band from who knows where. Why would they pick him? Maybe because he influenced them? Clapton has stated that he was influenced by Bo. Lets see, Clapton, The Stones, and the Clash all dig him but some how he a minor league guy according to you.
You put Yngwie Malmstein on the list? Sure he can play ultra fast but come on. Eddie Van Halen sure. Yngwie - nope not a chance.
