is it worth buying an item (an album, signed photo,etc..) with say only Stephen Stills and Graham Nashes autographs on the item (without David Crosby's auto?) Would it be worth it, for a future investment? - I know Crosby's autograph is less attainable ---->> ALSO - is it profitable as a collectible, to buy these signed Autobiographies (books) that you see on Amazon and E Bay - with only a provenance of a store receipt of the book's purchase, or a flyer of store signing - is this enough provenance or is it just a throw away - and not even worth ones time and $$$???+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If the signatures are authentic then it just comes down to if the price is right just seeing a receipt wouldn't be enough you would still need to confirm the signatures are authentic. With ebay and amazon full of fakes it's best to always do your research people were selling fake paul mccartneys with there wristband from the actual signing .
that makes sense! Always need to think how people will try to scam another like that (which is unfortunate but true, esp. in this day and age of reproduction at the drop of a hat!) Certainly makes one a little more leery getting into this as a hobby or a business venture...(ME!)
If you're looking for a source of signed books that you can feel a bit better about, check out the website for Premiere Collectibles. I don't think they have the particular CSNY selection you're talking about, but the have an excellent selection of signed books, including an option to preorder future releases for which they have scheduled signings. They also have tons of sales and promotions.
Books are a good way to collect but can be somewhat less desirable to some collectors simply because the signatures are not easily displayable without defacing the book.
Depends on the bookstore I guess. Many of these signings are easily found. The bookstores I have gone to will sell over the phone, get the book signed for you and ship it. Barnes and Noble unfortunately will not do that but Bookends and other places will.
Thank You guys all your input, as I'am interested in autographs too, but got away from it for awhile due to fears of getting ripped off and not wanting to throw my $$ away- It is something that interests me (prob because I'm a baby boomer!) but the more we share the more we learn and I'm a novice so I do appreciate your sharing your knowledge and expertise! =]
You are asking wonderful questions. Buying as an "investment" is never a great idea. The main reason is...you may purchase a fake. You should buy and collect what you love. Now, that leads to going to book signings for an investment. Yes, that makes perfect sense. Yet, let me give you an example of that that doesn't go as planned. I never, ever get autographs with the intention of selling. Yet when Jimmy Carter did an autograph book signing in my town, my stepdad wanted to go and meet him. Since he and my mom went, and they said "only five books per person" I figured I might as well buy 15, at $35 each (or whatever the price was). I tried so hard, the first few months, to sell those. Not one person was interested (and that's an ex-president; not a good President, but still....)
The problem with a receipt from the book store...is that somebody could buy one book, have it signed....and make multiple copies of the receipt and forge the book. Believe me, the crooks out there find ways to dupe you.
