Ever since this rookie phenom broke into the league his autographs/cards have been a hot product. As of now I am the only person I know of who has studied Puig's autograph extensively around here so I felt the need to share some exemplars. I have exposed tons of Puig forgeries on this site, and will continue to do so. PSA/DNA listed Puig in their "Top 10 Most Forged Autographs" of 2013. IMHO about 15%-20% of Puig "autographs" on eBay at any given time are truly authentic.

In order to help, I am sharing some authentic exemplars, as well as some forgeries to help train your eyes.

AUTHENTIC EXAMPLES:

OLD SIG:

Authentic Flats:

Authentic Balls:

*NOTE: Towards the end of his rookie season, Puig started signing the side-panel WAY MORE often than the sweet spot. (Forgers have taken note of this as well)

Cards:

Authentic Helmets:

Some 2014 Spring Training autographs, his sig is evolving already:

Now I will share some FORGERY examples. Please note, I have seen forgeries certified by PSA/DNA as well as JSA. With Puig being such a new superstar, even the big authenticators are going to make their mistakes so be very careful. There are TONS of forgeries certified by Global Authentics

I will try and keep this updated as much as I can. Be very careful when purchasing a Yasiel Puig autograph. Remember, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is." Also remember that a "COA" is just a piece of paper, and any seller not mentioning the COA is probably a scammer.

Here is another horrible forgery on a cheap 2014 Gypsy Queen insert card, this listed by eBay seller briand092994

People scribble on these cheap cards all the time and try to sell them quick on eBay for profit. This seller is in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, these cards came out about 3 weeks ago. The Dodgers have been nowhere near Fort Lauderdale making this IMPOSSIBLE to get signed by Puig. (It's also just a horrible amateur forgery).

I'm surprised MLB would authenticate this jersey that you listed as a forgery.  The hologram you see on the second 6 is their own tamper proof hologram.  My understanding is they will NOT use this hologram unless it was signed in the presence of an MLB authenticator.

I don't think that's the MLB authentication hologram. I've only seen the circle or small rectangle version. I'd guess this was on an officially licensed MLB product and then put on the jersey.

It is one of the MLB authentication holograms - used on pictures, bats and jerseys.  The small circle hologram is most often used on baseballs.  Here is a picture of my Jim Edmonds that contains the same hologram

Didn't know that, thanks. Now I know thats a good sign (for the most part :P)

I know nothing about Puig autographs so I can't really comment on it.

After looking it up a bit more, there's no chance that hologram is related to that jersey.

They stopped using it in 2005, and the one in the picture you showed me is from 2004. Some guy just managed to switch them around.

I've never seen that hologram because I'm relatively new to memorabilia so I thought it was just a merchandise sticker at first.

I clicked on your link - you are correct.  It says they used this hologram from 2001 - 2005.  My picture appears to have been signed Aug 13, 2004.

Good to know.  But I wonder how they managed to remove the hologram and place on the Puig jersey number without showing signs of tampering?

Sometimes the holograms just fall off and because this one is likely 8+ years old, I could see the glue just drying up.

It seems pointless to bother with the hologram since anybody can look up the number.  When they do, it's going to say something like 'Kip Wells - Pittsburgh Pirates private signing - May 2003'

Could also scratch off the numbers and say they "wore off" in time. Some people would likely fall for that.

Only a moron would buy that - Puig's been in the league for one year!  How old could it possibly be, right?  :-)

Another bad forgery "authenticated" by Global Authentics, such a joke. This listed by eBay seller gammsports
