Hi all,

I'm curious on people's opinion of "sniping sites" for ebay? I've been outbid more than a few times by last second snipe bids. They seem to work within the rules of ebay so it may be time to join 'em rather than fight em. I know outside of ebay most auction houses use something like the "30 minute rule" to extend bidding and avoid sniping but since ebay does not why not do it (right?).

So, if you think sniping is the way to go ... any recommendations on sites to use and or tips and tricks?

And if not, any ways to beat out a snipe without a sniping site and not lose out?

Cheers!

August

I have to admit I'm not impressed with the shenanigans that go on with ebay. I'm finding more and more auctions where i ask the seller about the item (shipping, etc) and they offer to sell it to me for some high amount. In one case there was 8 bidders and a few days left. Suddenly, a day later the item is "no longer available" and i presume has been sold off ebay to someone else for some amount like i was offered. I was surprised ebay allows items to just be pulled, even with bidders. eBay seems just a good way to advertise your goods but not really a "fair" auction site.

I answered with your same sentiments earlier. Those items are definitely being sold off eBay. You can report the item and since eBay owns PayPal...they can look into it and suspend the seller and their account. I've heard they hold the money for 180 days with no access whatsoever. And it always seems to be really expensive stuff that happens to and like you said has 8 bidders on the item!

Quite frankly I think if you snipe you are a freaking p**** , put what you are wulling pay for it and let it be ....snipers are the lowest form of  scum imho.........I believe in karma...

Quite frankly, I don't think anyone cares what you think.

Pete ...you must care cause you responded .... be a  man and put your best out there .....     sniping is for pussies and if the shoe fits.....

You sound like a small child who is quite angered at not getting his way (losing auctions). You really need to grow up and get over it.

And if anyone has any doubts about this a$$ getting booted, here ya go.

They do put what they are willing to pay.....with 1 second to go lol

I haven't used any sniping sites. But, I'm with you August - having the 30 minute extended bidding rule on ebay would be great.

I have to say that eBay is not a "True Auction" site. Other sites I use are true auction sites. If I make a bid in the last 30 seconds the countdown timer resets to 15 minutes so it is a true auction site. If another buyer enters a higher amount the countdown timer is again set to 15 minutes so it really is going, going, anyone else?? Gone! However that is not how eBay works, after losing many auctions in the last seconds. I had to join them and use an auction sniper program, there are tons of them out there. I used JustSnipe simple to the point just set and forget. There was a time I was bidding on 20, 30 records a month. So with it I won often without it almost never, it sucks but if you want to win on eBay it's what I had to do.  Scott

Slowly more forums are opening up and people are trading on forums like aml. It makes collecting easier without dealing with eBay. Also if you have been collecting for a little while you can establish relationships with dealers which can cut out ebay. Some dealers ask me if I want something before they list it on eBay. They would save money on ebay fees. Win win.

I think more people should offer stuff on here first if its quality. Cut out all these middle men thieves.
