As far as autograph collecting and music fan experiences goes, I find the range of stories I hear about various meet & greets to be pretty fascinating. I've heard of people paying modest fees (or nothing) for wonderful, fun experiences - and other stories of fans shelling out large amounts of money for a massive disappointment. And, of course, everything in between.

I thought we should have a comprehensive thread on the topic.  Have you been to a pre-show or post-show meet and greet or know someone who has? Was it a bargain or a ripoff? What was the mood - structured and hurried or casual and fun?

My favorite band does meet and greets at every headline show they perform on this tour, chosen at fandom by fans who sign up for their fanclub and enter the show-specific drawing. There is no charge, and (usually) I don't believe a show ticket is even required. They were asked about this in an interview early this tour, and the response from one of the band members, Martin, was pretty passionate about musicians who charge high prices for meet & greets. FYI: I get that this band isn't quite a household name yet, so there might be a sentiment of "Who are they to say . . ."  However they have an interesting perspective as both successful musicians with Top 10 records and huge music fans themselves).

Here's that portion of the interview:

Hi Ian

No I flew up to Edinburgh from Southampton for the event at the E.I.C.C.

What a night.

Oh ok, I am a Yank but I was born in Stranraer and have been to Edinburgh a few times. Beautiful city.

Was sorry to leave ---- beautiful city indeed and great experience all round.

I've had several Meet&Greet sessions with Kenny Wayne Shepherd. One in Denver and the other at BB Kings 80th B-Day Bash.  Kenny and the entire band in Denver were awesome especially Noah Hunt.  Kenny was alone in Biloxi but really cordial and signed everything I had. Sent Kenny the photos and they came back signed in about two weeks.

I've got a M&G coming for Charlie Daniels for one of his concerts in March. Expecting an good time with that as well.

I had one back in 1970 with 3 Dog Night at the Sports Arena in San Diego. Wasn't into autographs back then...lol  Several of them were shall we say a little high...Nice guys though.  My ma may she RIP, for some unknown reason tossed all my stuff out while I was at AF basic training, photos of them included....arrgggg...

Not a M&G but I was able to get to meet Julian Lennon. During the concert he sat on the lap of the girl sitting next to me. He leaned up against me and later apologized (no need for that Julian...lol)...he was awesome.

Wow - Black Sabbath´s most expensive meet&greets with Ozzy´s VIP Q/A has quite suprising rules!

At check-in you´ll turn in your cell phone and small camera. You will get it back just before you go into the intimate Q&A session.
Enjoy crowd-free shopping! You´ll have a pre-show reception with beer and wine! Please remind anyone in your party who will be drinking, to carry proof of legal drinking age as required by local law.
You´ll have a personal photo op with the members of Black Sabbath. Your hosts, Emma & Yvette, will take your Meet & Greet photo. They will be posted within two weeks following your show, and will be accessible for 60 days at..........
Enjoy the Black Sabbath soundcheck experience!
You´ll receive your ticket envelope, official Meet & Greet laminate, collectible 2016 Beginning and End VIP gift item which includes the commemorative concert ticket!
You´ll get your cell phone/camera back just before you head into the very intimate Q&A session with Ozzy Osbourne! In his dressing room!
No autographs. No cameras or cell phones allowed in the soundcheck experience or the Meet & Greet/photo op op.

No autographs?! For 2500 USD (for this package) or 1500 USD (just m&g without QA session with Ozzy)???

Seems pretty much like a glorified photo OP.

Since the advertised "VIP gift" is included even in the cheapo packages, I think it's safe to assume it's nothing special (e.g. signed poster or litho).

Still, some of these seem to have sold out already, so I guess the market is there. Truthfully, this will in all likelyhood be the last chance to meet these guys together, even sans autographs.

Now I really feel very lucky I got all 3 of them in 2013....

As they've had tons of autographed merchandise for sale on the last few tours, it's likely their autographs can be obtained relatively cheaply this time around as well, in some form.

Guns N' Roses VIP package for the Vegas reunion shows - $2500. Includes autographs, but no actual meet & greet.

Seems outrageous for a non-M&G situation to me. The signed poster/litho that is numbered will be worth upwards of a grand, depending on design and the total number produced. Dinner buffet/drinks, the usual gift bag and first 10 row ticket don't really add up to $2500 worth, IMO. But I'm betting it will sell well, just because it's Vegas, where the high rollers look to impress.

Actually, the poster says "members of GNR." So that might mean you have a poster signed by Frank Ferrer, Chris Pitmann and Dizzy Reed.

This is actually a really neat one for fans of the band Metric. For $65 you do get autographs and a group photo, but you also get an acoustic set, sing along and a video of the session.
