I recently purchased a Casey Stengel cut auto with a nice inscription. I bought it with a LOA from PSA for a lot (Stengel was one of several items in the lot that passed PSA). Of course, there's no date on PSAs LOA nor an expiration date. I called PSA to get the price on encapsulation based on the prior LOA and was told to remit $10 for this service. Once it arrived at PSA I get an email asking for more $$$ to recertify the graph. I called them and got the "sorry" speech along with the fact that they no longer honor LOAs from lots. People have bought these items based on their LOA opinions. I was told that the graph will have to be recertified and it is possible that it will fail...and that's the world of opinion based business ...they can undo prior decisions that they make. How can this be? how can they get away with this crap? and finally, how can we have any faith in the opinions that we get from these authenticators?
the lot LOA's have been abused, and fakes have been substituted. I see it all the time. I would consider the LOA worthless at this point, if you are concerned about authenticity of the Stengel, get it recertified or post it here for opinions.
