Not authentic, I'm afraid. Sorry!

This from a non Beatles or McCartney fan/collector, but that looks like a very dangerous purchase.  Small, awkward to sign item with a signature of a rock legend that is very frequently forged.  Unless there's an exact proof signing video and the collector or dealers reputation is top notch, then I wouldn't even consider an item like that.

Not authentic, in my opinion. Pretty bad, actually.

I agree with Ballroom, the slant is way off, it does not look good at all.

Hi Gary,

And this is coming from someone who is not all that versed in The Beatles signatures, but i dont think its legit. The Paul formation looks very strange to me at first glance. Another thing i have noticed with Paul, is that when he typically signs Hoffners, typicaly the signature is of good quality, and fairly small compared to the area he could potentially sign on. His signatures on Bass's typically seem to not be very "thick and chunky", but instead fairly detailed planned out signatures, so that the whole signature fits nicely.

Now thats not to say that Paul just didnt have a really thick sharpie with a worn out tip when he signed this, but i kind of doubt it. The signature just really doesnt compare that well to what im used to seeing. But again, i could be wrong, and this is the opinion of an amateur.

Here is a pic i found real quick of a Hoffner signed by Paul that came from his website. It kind of shows what i was talking about as far as the signature being articulate and well thought out, and not being thick and chunky. But instead, the signature is fairly precise. And i looked at alot of Hoffners, and they all seemed to share these traits. But conditions and pen shape could always be at play.

Hope this helps and i hope its real for you

Carl

Carl,

I love the image of the signed bass you got from Paul's website! I wouldn't know from the Paul alone that it was good, but the McCartney and the face look spot on to me.

What's the story on it?

here is a more typical Mccartney signature

Thanks Terrier

Thats it !

I value your opinion on Beatles items and my Investment has turned sour !

I purchased this item for approx $1200 over 4  years ago and I will be returning for a refund.

I will invest elsewhere when I get my refund

I will tell the forum the full story when I make contact with the Dealer who sold me this

Cheers buddy

thanks everyone else who contributed,  I appreciate your input

Good luck, Gary. Please let us know how the refund attempt turns out. If you want a McCartney signed piece, I'd go with an album or full-size Hofner, but ONLY one with a Caiazzo COA. Best of luck!

Hi Devon

I have a lot of McCartneys in my collection, all obtained from very good sources ( Sotherbys and Christies....etc ) including about 15 items obtained  'in person ' myself

This is the gamble when you dont get items yourself and unfortuately it appears not to be authentic by some good Authenticators on this site

Im sure the Dealer who sold me this item, is a person of integrity and of his word and will refund me

cheers

Gary

good luck Gary, let us know how it turns out. hopefully your source has good business ethics.

Thanks once again Terrier

Im positive this is gonna be be one of those good story outcomes
