By the way, NEVER, EVER use ANY tape.  The only things we use is mylar corners, polyester strip sides, rag corners or in a few cases, Japanese tissue.   Any tape, even the so called framers tape is improper.  When I started my…

Thanks Steve.  Museum framing should not be expensive.  The costs are mostly driven by labor and the frame you pick.  The actual materials, such as 100% cotton rag matting and the UV glass is modestly priced.  There are some…

You are definitely on the right track here, but there is something to be said about this new generation.   First of all I strongly agree with you that young collectors would be ideal to the business and community which would in turn make it…

Good point. I hardly thing a Ripkin ball is worth as much as they say, but not as low as $50, either. He's a Hall of Famer, and baseball is the sport that has the MOST collectable/memorabilia fans of ANY SPORT, bar none. And, he's not the…

Rick, That's a fantastic idea! Are you offering it towards collectables or also for a way to preserve family mementos? That market is at least 10 Times larger.

Steve, depends.  Most allow 1 year for redemption while others have a shorter time frame.   I am doing one for Living Social and another for Groupon.  For LS, in order to promote true archival framing,  I am offering $250 in…

I have a $30 Groupon credit... so I could get one for $109. I'm not interested,  however, I would like a Gossage signed ball. Perhaps I'll wait for one of those to be half price. :-)

Just this morning I noticed an outfit called Power Collectibles is offering MLB authenticated Cal Ripken baseballs for half price.....$139 each.

Although I have little interest in modern sports autographs, I find this offering interesting, especially when a quantity is offered and guaranteed.

Here is the lonk:

Are you sure you got what you paid for in framing?

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 7:49am 0 Comments

Just last week I received a call from a local individual who was referred to me by another framer. This guy, who was effected by the downturn of the economy, called me to sell his presidential document collection.

He mentioned he bought the collection, over a period of time, from a historical autograph dealer. We discussed the collection in length and its components. The seller also mentioned that the items were framed museum quality by a…

Will we see Abraham Lincoln signed commissions sell for $1000 one day?

Lately, I have noticed people selling off their collections they have enjoyed for years. I have also noticed very few people entering the field. Since my interest lies with early historical and political, I can only speak for this area. But I can bet that other fields, like modern entertainment, are suffering even more, especially with the negative publicity of… Continue
