I have the opportunity to purchase the below autograph.  The story behind sounds legit and looks similar to others I’ve seen during the era (‘79).  Does it look legit?  Thoughts?

Hi Brian, Ive done a big article on Belushi autographs on this site. On a first look this does look good.

Belushi article

Thanks Micko.  The guy that has it is a retired Chicago Cop.  His beat was the area where Belushi and Aykroyd hung out in Chicago while filming the Blues Brothers.  He met me last year at a car show, where I was showing off my Bluesmobile! Talk about a lucky break!

You have a Bluesmobile!! Pic please!

Sure thing!

Ha! Love it Brian. Was always a dream of mine to have a Bluesmobile all the way over here in Ireland, but never followed through on it. Congratulations!

Thanks! I built her myself! I think I’m going to start building more for export to Europe ;)

So, in your honest opinion what is a legit Belushi autograph worth? There is no paperwork verifying it, nor is it a retail transaction.

thanks!

I forgot you did a study Micko!

It looks close, but it looks like it was signed slowly to me. Belushi signed very quickly for the most part.

PSA Autograph Facts has several examples of his signature. It’s worth looking at.

Thanks for the feedback gents.

Now maybe I’m trying to convince myself that it is legit, but the full story I’ve heard from the owner, who is the person that got the autograph from Belushi in person and in the flesh is either so elaborate that it is intentionally meant to throw me off or is the absolute truth.

The owner of the autograph is a retired Chicago cop that was assigned to the 18th district in the city.  While he had no direct involvement with filming of The Blues Brothers, inside of the 18th district is Second City, Old Town Ale House, their apartments, and the illegal bar they leased and ran during filming.  Apparently he saw their comings and goings quite frequently and built a friendship with them, which continues to this day with Aykroyd.

What clinches that story for me?

The piece of paper that the autograph is on is the officers City of Chicago Police Department Ticket Book, that includes the violation court dates in the back of the book that jive when they were in the city!

I may regret it, but I think I’m going to have to go out on a limb with this one.

Back to my question though, what is a autograph of John Belushi that has been deemed legit worth in 2018?

He could have signed it more slowly and carefully than usual because it was for a policeman. That is the only concern I have about the autograph.

Here’s the whole story, that I withheld until I made the deal.

I befriended a retired 18th district Chicago police officer a last year at a CPD Memorial Car Show. He saw my Bluesmobile and his memory went back to the summer of ‘79 when he was a motorcycle cop in Old Town and he struck up a friendship with Belushi and Aykroyd while they were in Chicago filming The Blues Brothers. He told me these great stories about them and how he had a ticket book that was autographed by Belushi. He took my number and said he would call me if he ever decided to sell it. After losing my number for almost a year, he recently found it. Long story short I am now the caretaker of the ticket book and as a bonus received a couple of personal pics taken of Aykroyd on the officers police trike. These will be treasured items in my collection.

Congratulations! I don't recall seeing such a nicely signed Belushi autograph before.

I'd love to see the photos!
