Hello! So my husband and I made a quick decision to purchase 5 signed guitars from the estate of a collector for $100 each. We figured it was worth the gamble for that price. These were the last 5 available in a collection of about 22 others. They didn’t come with COAs, but other ones in the collection did have them and the guy seemed like a serious collector. Advice on what we should do to try and get them authenticated? We’ve spent the last 3 hours figuring out the sigs because the seller knew nothing about them. We have Tom Petty, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Steve Miller and U2. Ill try and figure out how to attach 5 photos...

Sorry but these are NOT authentic autographs IMO.

Reason for your conclusion? My husband found one that was the original listing on a memorabilia site. It had originally come with paperwork but that was apparently missing after they cleaned the place out.

For me, well - they simply don't look like the signatures of the folks they claim to be. "Missing paperwork" is not unusual. Most serious collectors would keep this information together. What do you suppose a guitar signed by Tom Petty is worth? If you could read the name why not the sister?

That doesn't mean much of anything - lots of bad material online and with papers and so on. What site by the way? That might say a lot too.

How comes it a "serious collector" did not know whose signatures these may be? ODD. I don't think this will end well - but lets get other opinions from folks more experienced with these names.

The collector died. His estate was left to a sister who had not spoken with him in years.

I can say for certain that the attempted Carlos Santana is fake

In fact its so fake I'm not even sure which one is supposed to be his

And the Stones one is a mess as well as bad forgery attempts

I'm afraid your $500 gamble investment will not be paying any future dividends

Hey Shawn, I think it is supposed to be the red Strat knockoff.

haha ya

i think its that one too.... process of elimination

The capital"C" was the giveaway

If that is supposed to be Tom Petty on the red acoustic it is way off.

Worst case scenario you get some acetone to clean off the bad sigs... you still have a few hundred bucks worth of guitars.

+1 lemons to lemonade.

I can't speak on the U2, Snatana, or Petty signed guitars, but that Steve Miller is definitely fake. I've collected Steve Miller's autograph in person a hundred times and that is not it. I've had a few different Rolling Stones pieces in my collection throughout the years. That one doesn't look right to me either.
