If it were not for the PSA/DNA seal of approval I'd be worried?

Any thoughts?

Just curious how often he would sign like this?

I'm sure PSA has the exemplars.

Would he just not finish off the "e" when rushed?

Any help would be welcome.

Interesting...I never seen a Mantle with out the "E" although the sweet spot classic card probably has the letter "E" under the card board as the full auto may not have fit

This is almost certainly authentic. I have seen the dropped or half e many times.

The e in Mickey is very inconsistant as well. Sometimes it is a perfectly formed e, but it is not uncommon to see it as little more than a bump on the way to the y.

That said, I suspect that these signatures would be less desirable than a well-formed signature. I would pass on the signature above unless it was dirt cheap.

Yes.  I do like this autograph of "Mantle", personally.  I have seen people sign worse "these days".. I don't think Mantle or Ruth would have ever wondered about their signatures back in the day they were signing balls..lol..

Just a quick thought.  I had a ball signed by Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood in 2003 when they got the closest in their playoff run and went off to the Gold Coast in Chicago to get it certed for my niece and guess what?  The "authenticator" said it was a fake.  Yup!  Hahah.. Even when I had a ball signed with Kerry Wood face to Face.  It happens both ways, too.  ;)

This is an authentic Mantle IMHO as it has every characteristic I look for when I'm buying....Except NO"e" (LOL).

I have seen a few like this with No "e" what so ever, but personally, I would just avoid it. This one will probably sell for $200+ with the PSA. Despite being a tough to find photo and a blazing signature, I'm not a buyer.

Hello Greg if it helps check out one of my forms on the history of Mantles autograph style....its a really great tool to use that shows 3 examples of how the Micks auto changed through out his career...feel free to check it out and post comments....happy collecting !!
I agree.
And I would add to put it into an anti acidic insert.
This Mantle is good, no question.  I have had Mantle sign items for me when he was signing at shows twice.  He was very courteous, asked where you wanted the item signed, what color marker, and was very proud of his signature.  Very, Very consistent when at a show.  However, when he signed outside of that venue, who knows what might happen.  I seriously doubt Mick was able to walk very far or go anywhere without being sought after.  I wouldn't doubt that a rushed signature from him might be slightly off.  Doesn't mean it's bad, just different than what we are used to seeing.
It's very logical.  Quickly signed is not the same as signed at a show your paying to go in.  There is a different decorum then at the ball park.. But you know yours is 100%.  Other foks like I who buy from dealers, have to do lots of homework on who they are buying from and make maybe 2-3 of their sellers' tops buying lists.  Too many more spoil the broth.. :-)
I guess this could qualify as a "rushed" signature, and I am not an expert on Mantle, but I am curious what everyone thinks of this "PSA/DNA" Mantle ball signed.  This is not a knock against the authenticator, as the cert is one of those "blanket" auction deals, and you can't even tell if this ball is even tied to it.  but I just don't like the signature so I am wondering what other people who study Mantle's think about it.  Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/WOW-MICKEY-MANTLE-SIGNED-BASEBALL-NY-YANKEES-PS...
I have no interest in buying it.  I am just curious as to what people think about the signature.  I think its bad.
Signature looks awful. I stay away from PSA blanket letter certs.  The seller can put any ball with it and claim this is the correct one.  He doesn't show the PSA sticker and doesn't mention the number.  There is a definite reason for this.
