Hello Matt...the best I can do for you is give you my collectors opinion since I am not an authenticator....From an experienced collector that purchases Yankees autos I can tell right off the bat the Mantle is a forgery...no question....I feel in my experience that its slightly harder to pin point a bad Joe D because Dimaggio I have notice did not sign with as much consistency as Mantle did...his auto always has slight changes in it...mostly in the last name with the letters D I and M...The "Joe" and the "aggio" portions of his auto always were pretty similar for the exception of a not so identifiable trate of the "oeD" portions of his auto being done in one motion which I have seen in authentic examples as well...but from the image of the Dimaggio I would say its also a forgery do to the shakyness in the letter "J" in the Joe portion of the autograph...Joe Dimaggio has always had a very fluid signature with no shakes or tremors in it as a good amount of fakes do because of the signature being drawn and not signed...another reason I would come to a collectors conclusion its not real is that particular Mantle is an infamous forgery and usually I would say if that Mantle style forgery is on an item more then likely the rest of the autos on that item were done with the same hand....I notice there also looks like a Mattingly auto as well on another panel...if you post all the autos on the ball iam sure I myself or some one else can help you with this ball to determine if the ball is good or bad...but I would say its bad...sorry Matt...it often happens in the event in receiving an item as a gift because the gift givers are not aware of how many forgeries are in the market and assumes all autos are authentic...

I noticed the Mattingly also, but its hard to see from that angle.  The Mantle is definitely no good.  You have a very clear photo of the Dimaggio, but its not at the best angle. the other photo is blurry so its difficult to really see the letter formation.  The Mantle certainly makes one question everything else on the ball, but if I were shown that Dimaggio as a stand-alone, I would say there are many similarities in his formation of the "a" and "g"'s to authentic examples.

thanks for your response. I definitely am not as knowledgeable as you guys are (although I will learn in time), but I had a gut feeling they were fake. They just didn't look "right." At least I didn't pay money for it.

Hey Matt heres another great way to own a authentic Dimaggio and Mantle these cards are all over ebay if you have an account...the Mantle Griffey card is quite expensive but the pinnacle Dimaggio is slightly cheaper ranging from $100-$200 a pop...the Mantle can be quite pricey depending on how deep your pockets are you can own both great pieces with book value...

The Mantle is certainly not real. The DiMaggio is probably not real.
