A sure indication is the appearance of stops.

Yes.  Unless it is a fountain pen.  Sudden ink blots would be typical.

Thanks. What about signatures that seem like they were signed lighting fast with a very slim or fine ink trail? Not sure if this makes sense but is that also a sign of auto pen?

Unlikely an Autopen would have ink trails/drags marks... but not definitive.
