This is very disturbing......www.sportscollectibles.com

I just had a really weird and unsettling experience.

I currently have a signed item that I am selling on eBay to (hopefully) raise some funds for another piece I have had my eye on. The piece I have listed is signed by a person that I have great interest in. Periodically, I do a Google search of their name adding "autograph" to see if anything pops up of them fresh to the market.

Tonight I was floored to see my item on eBay come up on Google....except it's not my listing and it's not on eBay. Instead, it's being offered on a website by a business who is not me, that I don't know and have never done business with. The website is www.sportscollectibles.com. Also, the price on their website is almost three times the amount that I have set as a Buy It Now on eBay but they have a "markdown" on it which is still twice what I am asking for it on eBay.  On top of all of that, they have used the scan of the piece that I provided on eBay on their site....as well as taking information that I provided in my description to use

As I say, I do not have this piece on commission with www.sportscollectibles.com and actually have never heard of them until this evening.

What's going on here?  Anyone have any experience with this company?  Are they scammers?  Also, what would be your advice on what I might do?

Thanks!

Here is their website...it's pretty slick.

Yes, total misrepresentation.  In fact, a  falsehood to a potential customer that they had the piece before them and that it was pulled from their warehouse to give a more detailed description.

Here’s something kind of funny.  I had added a few of my items in cart, to see if any email (which they don’t have though) to finish my purchase.  Totally forgot about.  I just checked pricing also and see they’ve increased since I had as well.  Just I added one in cart, and since I had done so previously, it’s available at both prices in cart.  Maybe I need to raise price once more so it’s double their original discount in my cart?  Don’t think I can’t get them to pay ME double to sell my item back to me at half that!  They’d probably cancel my order.  Almost willing to try....

It would be an interesting experiment...and there's really nothing to lose, actually.

I raised one of my JSA authenticated items about a week ago...and I just checked. Now it's raised on their website as well. I wonder if someone is monitoring this on their end or if they have some kind of precise software doing the price adjusting automatically.  I can't imagine they are manually doing this monitoring.

I am going to change my cover photo on eBay and I wonder if they will change theirs and how long it takes them.  Will update when I see anything changed.

If had the word ebay clearing standing out on your main photo, I wouldn't be shocked if it still showed on their site, like any search engine looking for photos.

I raised my price again, if theirs goes up again and my cart still has the one low avail, I will buy and see what happens.  Will update here.

Something that I thought about in regards to this....I wonder what their return policy is.

If they have someone who bought my item from them, theoretically they will then purchase it from me.  So I ship it to them, and I have a 14 day return policy. It's going to take a bit to get to them, then they will ship it out to their buyer...more time ticking away. If their buyer gets it and after a few days wants to returns it to them, it's going to take a bit for it to get back to them. Then what? That all takes time.  What if the original 14 days on my end as the eBay seller has come to an end?  Do they just keep it and try to sell it again?

yiur 14 day day return policy on ebay means nothing . its worthless

u can basicly return anything at any time especaly with postal delays now and then there are tons of other tricks after that so dont hold your breath

pss i wish they would sell some of my stuff as i dont care who sells it as long i get paid.

pople are over thinking .just show me the money

dam i sell to people all the time that lye to me and a day later i see it listed on ebay for 5 times what they paid from  me.god blesss them if they want o gamble like that

One of their FAQ's: (BTW, they accept returns, 15% restocking fee, cause they didn't stock it!!)

Do you purchase merchandise from individual sellers?
We typically do not purchase items from individual sellers however if you would like to create a ticket we can have a member of our team take a look at your items. Please provide images of your items, a brief description and your asking price. Our purchasing department will be look at your items to see if it is something that we would be interested in. They will respond within 2-3 business days.

SC does not purchase autographed sports memorabilia from private collectors. We do this for your protection. We do not take a chance in purchasing from individuals that we do not know as we want to be able to guarantee our products 110%. All our products come direct from a private session with the athlete in which a reputable company (such as Steiner, Upper Deck, APE, Real Deal, etc.) was present.

We receive approximately 50 calls daily from individuals wanting to sell their baseball cards or autographed memorabilia. We will not purchase any of these items as we only deal direct with the authenticator.

Is there an ounce of truth in any of that?

If they even sell anything that is someone else’s eBay product only, then their biz is based on other individual sellers or private collectors, whatever that eBay seller is.  Total misrepresentation!

I have purchased one of my own items from them this eve.  It’s still in stock on their site of course.  (I have 2 qty but only qty of 1 on eBay and price jacked up!  Waiting to see when and I they make the purchase from me (doubt but I bet at least an offer will come thru on Monday.)  After purchase by me, got the info page, l like how they are “picking and packing your prized collectible with care.” Ha! No change on eBay yet but it is still like Sunday eve.  Expecting a canceled order or they try to fulfill it at their last updated price since I had raised mine.  But I raised it this eve higher than their highest crossed out value.  The free shipping over 100 and maybe the 35% discount ended this eve so pulled the strings before that wrapped up.  I’m sure I’ll be back on here tomorrow sometime!

Great experiment!  We'll stay tuned.

Typo on my day of the week, as it was Saturday eve, still maybe no changes on Sunday though.
