Michael Jordan "controversial" autograph?!

Among collectors these style of MJ autograph is a real debate, some claim its fake, some its secreterial, some say its his earlier signature...

I was searching on internet for MJ signatures through his career and he really did signed like that some short period (i posted verified signatures identical like this 1,mostly from PSA) and i spoke to some highly experienced collectors who believe he really did signed like that in some period of his life... For example Bulls offered fascimile signatures this same style on club merchandise... (photo example below)

I would like to hear your opinion guys here, specially from MJ experienced collectors?

It is my opinion that your Jordan signature is 100% authentic (assuming it's live).

It is not secretarial, nor do I believe it's fake. The signature style dates mid to late 80's, likely 1988.

For what it's worth, my opinion is based on my 'expertise' in Michael Jordan. From 1989 to 2003, I specialized in Micheal Jordan memorabila - not as a collector, but full time dealer. I set up locally at all the major sports shows / conventions (Chicago area), and at the large national shows. Went to all the Bulls games, NBA Finals, charity events (Fest-a-Bulls Dinner, Tip-Off Luncheon, etc.), sent my daughters to his basketball camp. I was known throughout the industry as 'thejordanman'. Helped author several Jordan collectible books, provided auction houses with authenticity. You name it... It was a full time job. I dealt in everything from his cards, autographs (mainly UDA), to the super rare, and game worn. I have an old photo hanging in my computer that I'm almost embarrassed to post, because it was by far my worst display at a small show, but gives you an idea of what I'm talking about.

I would never call myself an 'expert', but all my years of specializing (eat, breathe, sleep) in Michael memorabilia, I have a pretty solid reputation.

Your post brought back some great memories. Thought I'd throw in my two cents :-)

Do you think it would pass full auth and where to send it? Some suggest JSA the best case to pass it..

For example it didnt pass BAS QO even tho i heard from a lot of people that their in person signed stuff didnt pass quick opinions..

The guy i purchased this from said he bought it from Lamar Hunt real estate sale in 2019. and later i found out he was a minority owner of the Bulls..

I was first sceptical about his story because it sounded too good for a non coa photo, but after all pieces add together and it makes sense.

I would trust the opinions on here, before any QO.

There's been a lot of discussion here about that, TPA's, etc. While I shouldn't be surprised that BAS rendered that QO, I am. If you're keeping this in your collection, I would save the money of sending it off, and feel assured that members here think it's genuine. If you plan to flip down the road, than I understand getting a TPA. Many believe JSA is best in sports. However, when I track prices, it seems that a PSA or Beckett sticker pulls more.

I am def keeping it.. I would just like to out a sticker on it so you always have some value and coa if you have to sell..

Some collectors who also believe this is real said that TPAs are rejecting that style..

Completely understand. I would request a full LOA, which I believe they do at the value. I hate distracting stickers on the front... if you opt for the sticker, I would have it put on the back. To each their own :-)

I'm surprised any TPA would reject his older signature. I'm far removed from those days, but I never had any issues with any of them authenticating early autographs. I always sought out his early signatures. From grade school, high school, UNC, and Bulls through the 1980's. By the 90's, if I didn't get in person, it was only UDA. The amount of forgeries in the 90's was horrible. Didn't seem to be as much of an issue with the 80's.
