Bela Lugosi - Thoughts?
I've had this Bela Lugosi SP that I'm now focusing on more seriously. I see things l like. Some I'm not sure of ( esp. the "B" looking somewhat atypical...although it's connection to an authentic style "e" following it looks right).
That "a" in Bela looks right. I've also seen him make the break in his surname ("Lug osi"). This came out of a batch of authentic signed photos from this same collector "Mush" from the mid-1930's.
Any help would be appreciated!

The more I read about "Mush" the more I would want to find out his identity. It would be the icing on the cake.

Agreed, Joe! These photos have all been signed now nearly 90 years ago. I'm sure somewhere there's a reference. Maybe on something like newspapers.com we might be able to find something with some digging. Especially so if he used "Mush" as a pen name in, say, entertainment reporting. All of these stars seem to have known him by that moniker.

He surely must have been an entertainment reporter of some influence during the era.

Joe - Here is another "To Mush" signed photo of that 1930's era. A different focus from his Hollywood collection. This time by a politician . This is former 1928 candidate for the U.S. Presidency Al Smith who was beaten by Herbert Hoover. Smith signed this photo for "Mush" later in 1937.

Interesting. Amazing there seems to be nothing to be found on his identity. So far.
I've tried goggling several different word phrases but no matches.

I've done the same thing since we started this thread. Can't find anything about him besides a photo here and there signed to him.

I did a search on "signed photo inscribed "To Mush" and a number of photos from various sources came up. It must have been a large collection. Still no leads past Mush which I find unusual.

I saw that as well....Heritage, RR, George Houle, various smaller dealers have all had parts of the "To Mush" collection. It looks mainly centered in the mid-1930's. I haven't spotted anything from the 40's onward.

History For Sale as well has had them. That collection really was spread out.

Thanks to a fellow member here who saw this discussion from last weekend, I followed a lead on another Lugosi signed photo obtained by "Mush" back in the mid-1930's. Same kind of notation on the verso of both photos by "Mush". This second one is not dedicated.

The collector/dealer whom I had a conversation with today about the "Mush" Lugosi photos didn't have much more info. about him. About 20 years ago, he came across in a local sale a couple of boxes of signed photos that had belonged to "Mush" . Most of the "Mush" material that has come to market from auctions and other dealers in the decades since came from from that original discovery.
But still nothing on "Mush" himself. We only know he was a busy collector back in the mid-30's who apparently had a media position that allowed him some access to these folks.
