Looks like vintage life ink. The sig itself seems to fit, although "Hitchcock" has several inconsistent parts. Has a Chance, I think. See what others say.
The OP photo has been trimmed and may not be a 1950's era original given the slightly grainy look of it (although a bit hard to tell for certain given the image provided).
I'm with you, Kaimi. Looks like some inconsistency. I'm also not sold on that being vintage ink.
Typically, Hitchcock would not just write "Best Wishes" before his name. Usually he would include "From" and that would have been usually proceeded by the dedicatee's name. Otherwise, he might just sign his name alone. Attached is a close-up of from an RR listing of a fully dedicated example of this photo.
Thanks KaiMi and Etienne, a couple extra photos have been added
If you own the piece, I would say you are out of luck. If you are looking to buy the piece, steer clear. I absolutely don’t like this one.
I do not own it. It is said to be stamped and sent to "Vladimir Petek" who is apparently a Yugoslavian movie director
One thing I have learned in collecting autographs for 30 years is to never take stock in the backstory of pieces. I have heard numerous times that autographed pieces were from a collection of a director or a producer or whoever. It’s always a sham.
Bottom line, this Hitchcock does not have a good flow to it and I would always be suspicious of it if I owned it. You can find much nicer ones with a Hitchcock caricature and signature for good prices.
Brian - KaiMi & Nick are both good members to bounce these kind of pieces off of. KaiMi is heistant....Nick a strong "no". I'd say definitely err on the side of caution. As Nick says, there are nicer ones out there. Be careful though as he is heavily forged (especially the caricatures).
I agree with the other members. The baseline and the flow of the autograph both appear to be atypical to me.
