As someone who's purchased from Music Record Shop for several years, I've learned that you need to be cautious what you buy from them, especially since they've been overinflating their prices as of late. I'll give one quick example: they recently posted the Amanda Shires album "Take It Like A Man" for $66. You can buy the same thing from Rough Trade for $30, plus shipping.

If it's something you haven't seen before and really want, go for it. But I've found that many records I didn't purchase from them I could buy from other places later, for cheaper.

100% agree. They have increased prices, not sure as much as regular vinyl increases, but definitely more. I did get a Chris Stapleton for $200 which was nice. Most I've seen was an Elton auto on Diamonds vinyl for the low, low price of $1200. Like all business, buyer be ware.

Another thing they do is reserve records and raise their prices later -- trying to create artificial scarcity. Even Chris Stapleton, when they first dropped a few of his records (maybe two years ago?) were $60.

Agreed. That's their common practice, they'll raise it too quickly or too high and after a while it could drop back down. Similar to Newbury Comics' 'Whaddaya think we can max this SZA sig for?'

Noticed the exact same thing. They follow the Newbury business model.

I find that the only time i grab things from them anymore are when they do their sales on older signed stock.

I rarely purchase from them but caved on a Breaking Benjamin vinyl last year and recently a Poppy signed flux vinyl. A lot of things have been tempting but I held off. If they were sligjtly less expensive on their regular stuff, I would have bought a ton more.
