Jim Morrison autograph

I have a Morrison autograph. Bought it 10 years ago. Anybody have any opinions about the authenticity of it?

I have compared it to known signatures on Doors stationary, checks, and Christies auctioned signatures and it matches up all the way down to the age of paper and ink. The paper looks 40 years old. Ball point pen. Would love to have someone authenticate it or give me a value of it. Thanks.

No I think Steve Cyrkin is trying had to get some approval. I could care less about the autograph anymore. From what I've read, apparently this industry is rife with fraud and insiders who protect each other.

Google 'Roger Epperson Steve Cyrkin fraud' and the volume speaks for itself. Color me disappointed. I'll look elsewhere for validation if I need it thanks.

Your continued ranting is proving my point.  Take the information for what it is worth and move on.  

 

Look, you are not paying for the service.  Just like watching a television show, if you don't like the content, turn the channel.  Nobody is forcing you to watch or listen.  Completely your choice.

If you didn't get it directly from his father, I apologize. That's how I took it and that figured into my opinion. You were very quick to pan Christie's and RRAuction after you got our opinions, as well as those who gave their opinions, and that's the kind of thing members of the forgery industry who come to our site to try to ridicule us do.

So if I misunderstood you and judged you accordingly, I'm sorry.

I thought we were having a great discussion up to that point but I have to agree with Steve that your response was strong.  In my opinion, you had an opportunity to add more substance to the discussion but instead decided to take a different route.  That is unfortunate. 

We all have our beliefs and opinions whether it be about autographs, religion, politics, you name it.  And no doubt, we all feel strongly about them.  However, we can still show respect to one another.

No problem. I had previously seen the Christie's signature, and don't know what to make of it. It's the most unusual Morrison signature I've seen offered by a major auction house. It was originally sold by Christie's back in 1998, and was recently sold though the same auction house for $1,845 including BP. Considering recent prices, that would be a real bargain for an authentic Morrison signature, and a lesser price than I would expect through a major auction house.

That's okay Jim.  Sometimes we say things in the heat of the moment.  God knows I am guilty of doing it.

Now, your updated response is thought out and makes a good point.  Let's forget about your Morrison signature for the moment and inquire about the known exemplars vs. the auction at Christie's. If indeed the Christie's signature for sale is authentic, then that makes the discussion all the more interesting.  Like you, I would love for more people to offer their opinions, good or bad.  I am here to learn.

Sold for $1500 at Vintagememorabilia. Info: Bold autograph signed by Morrison following The Doors' infamous live performance on The Ed Sullivan Show, September 17, 1967, in New York City. Signed on 4" x 5" brown autograph album page, with provenance notations on verso.

Interesting. I never heard of www.Vintagememorabilia.com but followed your link and looked at this and a number of their other music and entertainment pieces—like the sold Marilyn Monroe photo in red pen and Steve McQueen. I wouldn't buy any of the pieces I saw, including this one.

I never heard of this dealer. I'll keep them on the radar screen...thanks.
