Lots of times I've seen checks signed by big stars paying their utility bills, car repairs, or credit card balances. I guess it's automatically assumed that a bank check is always signed by the payer. But don't some celebrities use rubber stamps or secretaries to sign their checks?

The majority I believe are signed by star.   Mike P and I did a Redd Foxx signature study on here about his signed checks since his signature style changed.  His manager did sign his checks but signed his own name not as Redd.  I suppose some secretaries may have signed checks for especially big stars but doubt they did so much on personal accounts.   Rubber stamps would be pretty easy to detect.  If I was a star I might authorize a secretary to sign a check but would not want them forging my name.   Charlton Heston's secretary signed most of his fan family, but the one thing Heston did do was sign his checks.   I actually have a Heston check made out to his secretary!   I think I have it posted under the Heston study that Steve Zarelli did on here.  The same is true for Lou Costello his secretary said he insisted on signing his own checks.

Here is a link to the Redd Foxx signature study about checks.

It's an interesting question.  I guess I've been in the camp of being a bit more cautious with checks at times.  Business managers and/or secretaries back in the day were given a lot of delegation, at least in some cases.

On the other hand, Greta Garbo was virtually unobtainable in authentic form until several years ago when a surviving relative started slowly releasing old canceled checks of hers.  Those checks were selling for well over 1K when they first came to market.  Now you can get one for significantly less.

Today's current celebrities would be really hard I would think to get a check from as a collector.  In our age of digital/online payments, that form would seem to have pretty well all but disappeared.
