Jack Albertson is probably best known as Grandpa Joe in the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and for Chico and the Man.  He also was in the original classic disaster movie The Poseiden Adventure.  All of these were in the 1970s meaning his autograph was in high demand from TTM collectors.  The predictable result was the use of pre-prints or autopen autographs.   Below is a TLS that is often mistaken for real letter.   There were two of these for sale on eBay at the same time.  One had a photograph mentioned in the letter than certainly is not hand signed.

Hi Scott,

it is too bad that gets mistaken with "Dear friend"...

I loved him in The Poseidon Adventure". He made a good team with Shelley Winters.

That is a great candid shot of the group albeit without Eric Shea.  Sad to think he and Pamela Sue Martin are the only main actors still living.  I believe it was Katherine Hepburn that would send a letter stating she did not sign photographs.  However, her signature was real on those.  I may have her mixed up with someone else though, but think it was her.

Thank you. Yes, that was Hepburn. I thought it was rather funny. I used to see them for sale in NYC at my old dealer Karl's. He was a great source - many full albums of the 8x10's from the 40's to the 70's of the stars of the day, all vintage signed and priced like it was the early 80's. I still have one from him below. Joseph Cotten in The Third Man photographed by Willhelm Nassau. I think it was $20.

Gene Hackman is dead?

Alive and well at 94. :-)

Oh, wow I did not realize he was still alive!  That is great.  I love the original movie there was not a dud among any of the actors or actresses.  I think it was one of the best things Red Buttons ever did.  I am not sure why I never collected that movie.  I have a lot of them.   That is an amazing signed still of Joseph Cotton.  Not to play that Kevin Bacon game but Cotton was in The Devil's Daughter with Shelley Winters.  I love that movie but a complete waste of Jonathan Frid's talent.  For some unknown reason they made him a mute butler that anyone could have played.  He did a fine job at what he had to work with.  Cotton and Winters were really good.  Just one of the great made for tv movies of the 1970s all with big name stars.

Yes! 94 in incredible. Well, we can play that game a little ;)

I met Jonathan Frid and I have this Shelley Winters!
