Avoid at ALL costs! The forger's obviously not done THEIR homework or perhaps they have and are just rubbish at forging things. Jackson is a massive target for forgeries these days. Another poor example.

I disagree. MJ's sig changed alot with the arc of his career. The bigger he got, the bigger it got. This is vintage MJ sig late 70's, early 80's.

Fair enough, Chad. The only true way to know for certain? Take it to an expert. They'll tell you. Find out who the MJ experts are and take it from there.
I hope for you its real and as Chad has some knowledge on the subject, you may find yourself with a real item here.
I've got a Jackson myself but sadly, I do believe its a fake. Great shame.

Well, I'm no expert, but I have put quite a few man hours into studying MJ's sig.
In my experience, be careful of whose opinions you pay for...I've had 1 "reputable" dealer cry foul, despite 5 equally "reputable" fairs! Point is, everybody has an opinion. At the end of the day, the best way to go about it is to hunker down, do your homework, and follow your gut. Why pay some Joe (no offense authenticators) to give you his opinion when you can educate yourself? A little research goes a long way in this hobby!
That said, I'm interested in other's opinions here, too.

Yeah Chad, totally agree. You can NEVER be 100% sure unless you see it signed right in front of your own eyes which is why I am trying to get to at least one show next year.
Would love to go to Autographica. Was going to go one time but one thing led to another and I didn't, but I still got some good merchandise from the pre-order.
From what I've seen and heard thus far, you may find that the MJ auto is indeed real. However, you could get it authenticated but as Chad says, urr caution and know your authenticators. Try and snuff out an MJ expert, not just any old authenticator. Sadly, I don't know any.

Hi Chad,
Do you already own the piece? If so i recommend two things. Since their is some difference in opinion. I would ask Roger Epperson what he thinks of the piece. He is an expert on Jackson and you wont find someone who knows it better. You can pay a small fee and he will take a look for you, or if your lucky he may comment here for free. The second thing would be to send it to PSA/JSA. They are a really great service at weeding out forgeries. Youll see alot of propaganda out about them. Yes they have made mistakes before, but they are few and far between. A tip that will go a long way is to avoid suggesstions from anyone who goes out of their way to tell you how bad these companies are or how many mistakes they make. Often its a forger your talking too who wants to smear the company so they can sell their own forgeries easier. In the case of Jackson, if PSA or JSA approves it, you will be able to sell it for a premium. Ask STeve Cyrkin to comment on it, he knows Michael good and can direct you towards others who have a vast knowledge of him.

I think I have seen this before and IF it is the same it is genuine. If you read it, it says: Michael Jackson, Love, 81. So C R is right about the timeframe.

this is a 1979 autograph. There are similarities (like the loops in the "c"s. But this example from ebay, really looks a lot more like his later signature, just less flamboyant. The one presented in this discussion, is thought to be from the same time period, and there is a lot of variance.

I don't know if the autograph Chad opened this discussion with is good or not. I'm leaning more towards bad than good, but it's beyond my expertise.
But Terrier, I think that the Michael Jackson you linked to is FANTASTIC. I would be absolutely shocked if an expert who knows MJ said it wasn't good as gold.
That said, the $1,799 starting bid is over $1,000 too high.

Steve, I haven't studied MJ's early styles at all. but I posted that just to show the differences between the two, as they were supposedly signed in roughly the same time period. It makes me question the one that opened the discussion, but like you, I just don't have the expertise to be sure. Also, Jane Fonda looked pretty good back then! LOL
