Feb. 4: We're expanding and reorganizing our discussion forums. Excuse our dust.

I'm set to try and complete my SNL vinyl cover tonight. Jane Curtin is the last autograph I need to complete this item. I spoke to the venue. She's set to arrive at 530 and all they can do is take my item and ask her if she will sign out of sight. This complicates things. I can't use a paint pen out of fear it will be smudged. No one in the area sells a basic silver sharpie. They have new metallic ones which seem crappy for this specific item.

I'm wondering if I should wait outside and try to stop her myself? I've read so many horror stories about her unwilling to sign items. Would it be best to let the venue take it to her and ask? I'm in a crazy loop of over thinking. Traveled over 1000 miles to be here and it's only a few hours left until it's time.

I'm going to keep searching for a basic fast drying silver marker to cover the vinyl being signed in any area. My preferred pick would be an extra fine white paint pen but only if I can control the situation.

Anyone have any last minute advice?

Here is the vinyl.. should I just give them the same black sharpie Chevy Chase used and hope she doesn't sign over her black shirt?

IMO Regardless of what you have heard, it would not hurt to try, You might be surprised. I would definitely use a sharpie, those tend to last the test of time as opposed to a pen I can fade, quickly I might add.

The metallic sharpie that you’re referring to is something that I have and that is what I would use.

I would, however, have a piece of paper handy to get the ink on the felt of that metallic marker before handing it to her, that way she’s not trying to sign it with a dry marker

Thanks for all of your input. It's very helpful. I'm still trying a few gel pens that are listed as archival quality uv resistant ink. They are fast drying but still slightly slower than a sharpie.

I'm a bit upset with the quality of the silver metallic sharpie on a similar vinyl and hoping for something better specific for this cover. Might go with the extra fine black at the last minute since it worked great for Chevy, but we will see.

I also want to add for your consideration, wherever you heard that she doesn’t sign items or avoids signing items, that’s actually put to rest by fans online and if you look online at the amount of items that she has signed particularly SNL memorabilia like what you have, I am absolutely confident that if you can find out which door she is going to be using that you will get a signature, now it just determines on what platform you wish to use whether it be a pen or sharpie or marker. I would let her know while she approaches that it’s signed by all cast members except her. Just thought I would share what I found.

Maybe write short note to her to explain and ask permission and have them deliver that to her?  She might just say no, of course.  But I'd also be afraid some overzealous stagehand might sign it if you had them take the album back and she said no to that.

Personally, I'd be less concerned about the pen.  I'd go with a basic Sharpie and hopefully she'd know the right place to sign if she signs it.

I think this is a great idea. I have time to prepare. Just an FYI, I'm at the Mahaiwe Performing arts center in MA. A small venue. There is a rear door she could possibly use but when I inquired months ago, they said all performers usually just walk through the front door.

I'm tempted to sit outside and try to ask her myself but for whatever reason, I'm just not feeling comfortable. My chances may be better letting the venue hand it off with a note. Still debating

You have the opportunity to put a post-it note with "Please sign here" and an arrow on the LP - the venue seems a reasonable "in." I'd go with lower right; lower left as second. If it were me, I might try a ballpoint. A NYC courrier might be another way to get a message to her - delivered to the Stage Door and addressed to Ms. Jane Curtin c/o Stage Door, venue and address etc. with your request.

GOOD LUCK!

I meant to say middle right - there is that sticker in the lower corner.

That's what I'm thinking, or above Jane's head to right, sharing space with Garrett.

That sticker was such a mistake

For some reason I thought this was in NYC. My mistake. Idea remains the same though.
