Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you might be able to help me out and take a look at this sellers items and see what the verdict is. I am interested in one of his items, the problem is, he has 4 or 5 of that same artist and listing them all for the same price. I also see where he has several different artists where he has multiples selling at the same price. While this doesnt necessarily mean anything is up, when i see something like this, flags go up for me. I took a look through his inventory though, and see some totally legit stuff, and the items i looked at, did all seem good. Granted im not an expert. But their were def some good stuff such as a george harrison authenticated by roger epperson. So i know that at least some is legit. But it would for sure ease my mind if i knew he looked okay. I am interested in one of his John Renbourn signed albums. What do you guys think? Here is a link to his store. Thanks for looking and hopefully someone can help. I may have just found a good ebay seller. And if this seller is a member on here, i mean no disrespect, i just like to be careful, and am not the most knowledgeable so i like to ask around. The items may be totally legit, and i hope they are.
Thanks again
Chris

I know nothing about John Renbourn's autograph, but most of the stuff I'm familiar with looked good, including some of the cheaper Biffy Clyro stuff.
I had seen the "Velvet Underground & Nico" signed LP, which doesn't look authentic to me. The same goes for some of the Ringo Starr autographs.
Thanks for posting. I've run across this seller befor on ebay and always wondered whether he was legit.
I looked this seller up on eBay and found he has been a member since 2002 with over 15,000 feedbacks as a seller. none of those feedbacks appear to be negative. he has approx 1,000 seller ratings which are three 4.9 and one 4.8. Personally, I would look at someone with a reputation like this and give them the benefit of any doubts.
I`ve looked at things he had for sale during the last years.. Never found anything that looks fake to me! (of those autographs I am familiar with)..
Thanks for the comments everyone. I tried running one of the John Renbourns past PSA quick opinion and they couldnt render an opinion. I dont know if thats because they dont have enough examples to make an accurate prediction or if its an iffy signature. I cant imagine them not having enough john renbourn's but who knows. If their is anyone out their who can use the link above and look at his john renbourn items and give me their opinion i would be grateful. It just worries me he has 3 for sale, all at the same price, and the signatures look virtually identical. I know that can easily happen because its one person, but typically the signatures are some what rushed and wont look exactly like one another, but these do. Can anyone help on this one? Please
At least his Queen items (Brian May/Roger Taylor) are all forgeries, imho. They are better fakes than the usual junk to be found everywhere and very pricy too...
I reported all of his Queen forgeries more than once to eBay but, as usual, it seems like they don't care at all.
thank you all for the opinions. Thanks Marco. I think hes got a mix of good and bad. But it doesnt surprise me to hear that about the queen items. It seems every time i see a professional dealer who is offering numerous examples of an artist in good spots on LPs all selling for the same exact price, they are bad. I mean not every time by any means, normally with a little research i can figure out if its a collector who had a hook up or whatever the story may be. But like in this example, he has 3 john renbourns, signed in blue on each, all signed extremely similar, and theyve been up for well over 6 months but it now. typically when i see authentic examples like this, the sigs are varied, look different from one another. But not these. And these are pristene LPs, no damage or scuffs, brand new looking. John renbourn is great, but typically the authentic items you find of him nowadays are on older items with a little wear, as their arent a whole lot of collector going after him, at least i cant find them if their are. Again, their are so many exceptions to everything i have stated, but in this case with the feeling i have, im going to go with not authentic to the Renbourn items. His others may be A ok, but compared to authentic renbourns they dont match up that well and i just have a bad feeling. Thanks to everyone though who commented
Sorry to report to everyone that this seller is definetly selling some bad items. Their may be some good ones in their too, but he definetly knows hes selling some bad ones. After having my suspicions about the 3 John Renbourn items he has for sale and how they all looked to neat and uncharacteristic of the signer, I decided to do a search for Pentangle signed items. Pentangle is a band Renbourn was in along with Bert Jansch and a few others. When you find authentic examples of them, they go for quite a bit. And you rarely find them up for sale fully signed. When i was looking for a bert jansch signature about a year ago, i checked ebay every day for about a year, and in that time only saw one authentic pentangle item. So this seller has i believe 4 fully signed items up for sale. They are all in perfect condition, all in blue ink, and all appear to be signed in the same hand. They are listed all for the same price just like the renbourn items were and are all on almost pristine condition items. Back when i used to search for bert jansch alot, i saw these same items up back then but didnt look to see who was selling them. So with all this evidence, i think its safe to say i answered my own question. This seller definetly has bad items up and im sure he knows it. You couldnt help but not know it, just using the pentangle items as an example, and using a little autograph common sense and deduction. But i really do appreciate all the input and thoughts.
Hi Chris,
Here is my 2 cents. A bit late to the party but my friend told me you had posted this and I have some important info to add. And this info is factual.
I know for a fact that mr.sloane is not truthful in his descriptions on his contemporary signed items. He states that he got them signed himself and gives dates and times. When the truth is that he bought them off of ebay. So you say, "well, I can cross check that to see if he did do just that". Well, I have done this and figured out that he waits 90 days till the action info has been pulled so you are not able to cross check his posts to his purchases. So he is waiting 90 days before he posts, unless it is a private auction and with those auctions you are not able to get any info. So that gets posted right away with the claim he got them himself.
Pretty smart and the way I found out was that he had posted something that I had my eye on from last year. It was a singed Depeche Mode photo. Item number 221072577163 but an other seller had it posted. It was a seller that goes by the Ebay name "spadon2637" I went into "spardon2637" feedback and saw that mr.sloane had bought 7 items in a private auction. I know for a fact that mr.sloane bought up the remaing Depeche Mode photos that spardon2637 had left. You see spardon2637 is know as Dennis Robbins from the UK. I had bought a signed Depeche Mode photo from Dennis and told him I would be back for the others.
Well, I found the other photo posted again but from another dealer "mr sloane", no big deal but when I read the listing description I got pissed off, mr.sloane claimed he got them signed himself.
"PLEASE NOTE: ALL SIGNATURES ARE THE REAL DEAL. IT'S SIMPLE - I DO NOT SELL SIGNATURES IF I DID NOT SEE PEN PUT TO PAPER. I WAS THERE!! I AM DOWNSIZING MY OWN COLLECTION AND, WITH A HEAVY HEART, CERTAIN ITEMS MUST BE SOLD TO PAY FOR EXPENSES - THIS IS ONE".
What "BULL", this guy is claiming this to help sell his purchases. It's one thing to buy and sell up. That's fine, but to lie about the item. That's not cool.
Look mr.sloane has over 15,000 in positive feedbacks. But it is a hit or miss with his inventory. Some is good and some is not. But I would not leave feedback till you've had things authenticated with Roger Epperson or PSA. So incase something is bad you can return it, because he will not want the negative feedback.
I've contacted mr.sloane and told him I was on to what he is doing, twice. But he did not respond back. I've contacted Ebay and filed a case against him under this issue of " false information" Ebay is building a case.
Look these two items up, and you can see what I mean:
Ebay Item number: 230830364246
Ebay Item number: 200772178396
Hope this helps, EVERYONE .........................
Now he has change the description on some of his auctions. He no longer stated that he have got the autographs in person and that he have bought them. But he still states that all his autographs are 100% genuine.
I think he believe that all his autographs are genuine, but I don't agree with him.
