Questions On Music items from UK dealer
Garry King is well liked by some but I see a big problem with some of the items I see on his site. I'm not referring to Kenny Baker and other small bits but rather the large $$ music items.
Dealers in the UK might not be aware of current music item that they offer for sale. In another thread several autographs from Autografica were deemed fake. The items were Clint Eastwood, Charlton Heston and Harrison Ford.
He might not know there is a problem.

Now remember I'm NOT saying that Garry is a forger or knowingly selling of forgeries but he has told me that music is less then 5% of his business. He just doesn't know MJ's autograph in my opinion. He has to trust the people he is buying from because he doesn't know. One would think though when he asks an impartial authenticator that ONLY does music his opinion that he would take that information and use it wisely. It has now been sent to AFTAL board members who have sold these MJ's from Adrian and dismissed my expertise and state they are authentic. Why did Garry ask me in the first place? He obviuosly thought my opinion was knowledgable or he wouldn't have asked me. I didn't contact him, he contacted me. I really don't know what's going on over there with AFTAL but it smells like a duck.

I knew what you meant. It's obvious within the context of the rest of your sentence. You only have 15 minutes to edit. Maybe Steve can just delete it and you can start over. Otherwise your "Oops" should suffice.

I'm sorry but this sounds very dubious to me - you're relying on someone else selling you good stuff and later finding out its forged, therefore putting the collector in harm's way?
If it were me selling this stuff, I would at least want it authenticated and on good authority the material is genuine.
I'm not critical of all dealers at all but I do know that some things that dealers have sold to me in the past have been dubious and that the current autograph setup is questionable where AFTAL and others are concerned. Seems the approach in some ways to the autograph setup is loose in the respect that its not taken seriously enough in some areas.
Sorry but that's my opinion and to finish, I think you Roger have a great website and seem like a decent dealer and person in general. I do also believe some sellers are good ones who get burned and there are those who knowingly scam others.
What I don't believe is that items are advertised on websites as authentic if the dealer isn't sure that they are and its done on trust, if that is the case with some dealers.

You nailed it Rob. There used to be a time many, many years ago when you could trust someone that it was authentic. Greed came in and changed all that. I hardly trust anyone anymore on their word, I let the autograph tell the story. I have had my best friend who I collected autographs with for 12 years, side by side try to sell me some fake autographs of George Bush Sr that he forged. I never talked to him again. Nothing surprises me anymore.
Also, I went on the AFTAL website to see who is on the 'board" and it's not listed.

Sounds very dubious that to me about the AFTAL statement. I only buy from IP dealers where I can now and not necessarily AFTAL but I go by the philosophy now of getting a receipt and certificate of authenticity.
I always keep them safe but I find the IP dealers are certainly more likely to be real but I shall not name names but I am dubious about 1 or 2 dealers now who I shall not do business through them again.
AFTAL need a kick up the backside though because I think its a shoddy setup, sorry.
It also makes it difficult to distinguish the good dealers from the bad ones.

Dominic was the main distributor of Adrian Longden's Michael Jacksons and perhaps other autographs. Several dealers said they bought their MJs through him. Garry bought his three from Dominic.
If he doesn't give refunds based on AFTAL's conclusion Tuesday, he's saving a lot of money.
