Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale
On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

"and according to Juliens..." we know what that means. I don't know anything about the family at all but I can say that Randy is very upset with the fake autographs in the sale. We had a very long discussion about it and it is very bothersome.

I have also been in contact by members of the Jackson family and inner circle and I believe there may be another few members that will be backing Randy Jackson . It is hard to convince or prove to non collectors and most celebrities the importance of authenticity when it comes to autograph collecting.
" I can Not tell you how many times I have heard, so what is the big deal". Sometime I feel they believe that autograph collectors are a small cult of Crazed fans. It would be nice if after all this, if someone could put together of find more positive information on the history of the autograph hobby and the number of collectors worldwide. It would be nice to be able to show the reasons people collect, and the importance of autographs and signed documents. It seems that almost every story when you look up autograph collecting is negative, and about greed and money. This is also sad.

Michael was one of the biggest collectors of autographs and memorabilia himself. He was passionate about it, going to exhibitions, swap meets, local dealers and bookstores. Collecting autographs and other pieces of memorabilia on Shirley Temple, Our Gang, Disney, Bruce Lee and Marvel. Another thing people don't know is he was a collector of his own memorabilia! He drove a hard bargain with fans to collect memorabilia, magazines, photos and toys about himself and the Jackson 5!
It is sad when people make fun of others or don't take seriously the passion of what makes us happy.
The industry has to police itself so this timeworn tradition will continue through the generations.

That is a very interesting point about him being a collector himself. I think sometimes people that do not collect fail to realize that collectors have also preserved things that might otherwise have been destroyed. Many museums contain artifacts that were donated by collectors. So very good point.

It is truely is amazing some of the "small things" people preserve because they are people not collectors (at least @ the time). I do mean preserve, these things are momentos to them because they have actual memories of an event. VERY GOOD point!

Thank you so much for making this point, Michelle. Michael was an avid collector. He understood the importance of preserving our collective human history.
Didn't he also collect Three Stooges autographs and memorabilia? I know he loved them. :)

Lets face it, the thoughts and opinions that the common public has of "the family ( not counting Michaels kids, who are innocent and probably being used too) " has been brought on by the long term behavior of the family itself.
Nobody can blame the public for not trusting ANY of these people. Even in regards to this auction, we have one (maybe more) family member who is speaking out. Who wants to bet that there s at least te same # who will have their greedy palms out once the auction is over?
So, your post won't be a surprise to anyone.

Lets face it, the thoughts and opinions that the common public has of "the family ( not counting Michaels kids, who are innocent and probably being used too) " has been brought on by the long term behavior of the once ethical, fact based media turned tabloid, distortion spewing, celebrity stalking media.
"Nobody can blame the public for not trusting ANY of these people." ANY of them? How about the three siblings attempting to defend their brother's legacy against a fraudulent, rogue estate? And don't ask me anything more about that - you were shown if you choose to see.
