u2 autographs

are these real early signatures or fake? Can anyone help?

Moderator note: Member Nigel Young rec'd information about his items being forgeries. He then removed all information on this thread pointing to those items, and posted them on eBay for sale. His seller name is bluecityboy1969. He has since been banned from the forum.

All of the signatures look be a done little too slowly and aren't quite right, even for that time period. Seems like earlier signatures can be a bit more complex at times (all of them seem to have been somewhat erratic signers in the first few years of the 80's), but I can't see this as being authentic.

One other thing you could do is join this Facebook page and post an image of your album. Many of the group members are quite competent in U2 autographs. Some have actually met the band members several times over the years, some since the 80's. Some have owned dozens f authentic examples from all eras. Obviously the group is based on an acute interest in U2 autographs, so you should get some helpful feedback.

So you're saying that no one knows what U2 autographs looked like prior to the invention of the internet? I'm not even sure how to respond to that.

I talked to a couple other fans, and here is what we're seeing. The Edge is signed incredibly slowly and deliberately, as though a kid was copying an authentic example The Bono is also slowly done and it exhibits no clear traits of being authentic for 1983 or later (or really any time frame for that matter). I'm not seeing any early 80's of Adam resembling what is on that Adam (the fat, rounded A is especially bad-looking). Larry Mullen has something added to the end of his signature . . . "Jr" maybe? Something we've never seen at all before. None of the signatures looks quite right. 0 for 4.

Without even knowing much about U2 signatures, I would conclude that this is a forgery. WAY too slowly drawn. Regardless, If I was a buyer, it wouldn't be a piece I'd feel comfortable buying, even with a cert.

Well put Nicholas. They all look very very slowly drawn. Im not the best on U2 autographs, only really being familiar with Edge, and this looks nothing like what i have seen. It really doesnt compare at all to what autographs i have seen from Edge throughout the years. All the signatures look extremely labored.

I would also take the advice of Rich to heart Nigel, as he is one of, if not the most knowledgeable U2 guys on this forum. If i had any questions on U2, he would be the guy to go too. He knows them very well.

In my opinion, either these are bad forgeries, or like Bjarne said, someone was just having fun and imitating U2 sigs as a conversation piece or a joke. But i would say the chances of these being real are.....well, nevermind, i dont think there is a chance. I hope the other items are good though. But if they came from the same source, id say its unlikely they are genuine as well. But you can always post them here and ask for opinions.
