What do you all know about autographreference.com and its products and services.  I have read mixed reviews.  But they offer an autograph guide which looks to be very in depth but I have read that these are just scans of sigs authenticated by PSA or JSA.

Is there any truth to this? Who runs this company? What do we know about the principle authenticator Bobby Poll?

Thanks for the input.

My initial impression is that it seems like they're selling authentic items.  But the whole "authentication" thing is kind of weird.  What items are they authenticating?  Looks like everything has either the athlete's own authentication or a JSA cert.  The AR sticker is generally only on lower priced, non-superstar items.

I purchased the book.  I use it as a reference.

Thats why I am inquiring. Id like to get a reference book to have around and look at to learn a little for myself. I jsut didnt want to get a book that would be a bad reference.

Which book did you get?  The HOF book or the 50 most forged book (B&W or Color Version)

What do you think about them?

I have a copy of the HOF book and although all the pictures are black and white and not of the greatest quality, it is a very good relatively inexpensive reference book for virtually all of the Hall of Famers and well worth the purchase price in my opinion.

It would not necessarily be for an advanced collector but is excellent as a starting point for someone fairly new to the hobby looking to gain knowledge.

It also has common clubhouse and forgery examples on major stars like Ruth/Mantle/Dimaggio/Williams which is also a great help when evaluating autographs on Ebay.

One of the Mantles I own I bought from him...Also the same guy Erich and I got the Stan Musial Litho's from

Bobby Poll is legitimate. He sells authentic items. Much of what he sells has authentication in addition to his but he is a knowledgeable authenticator.

He is certainly not that well known but did put together a Baseball HOF book of exemplars that serves as a good reference for inexperienced collectors. The pictures are not that great but overall it is a useful tool.

He authenticates for some of the smaller auction houses especially on lesser valued autographs.

He obviously has contacts as he often sells large quantities of items with Bret Favre's authentication.

I have both bought and sold to him on occasion and have never had an issue.

In my opinion, Bobby Poll is a credible seller who makes a good faith effort to sell good items. I can't testify to every item he has ever sold, but from what I have seen, his offerings are legit.

I know very little about them. Here's a discussion from last October where the person who posted it was telling people to beware of them, but the concensus of members participating in the discussion was that they were A-OK:

I was AFK during these months so i missed that discussion..I read the Net54 post though from the Oct discussion

Yeah Ive read that one before. I believe he meant game used as in the type of ball they use in games and not game used in a particular game.

They actually state on their site that he does not deal in game used items.
