STUDY: Jerry Lee Lewis - TTM real or not real
Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not. I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples. These TTM signatures are not cheap. You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box. The question is are they real or not. Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

I received a long and detailed response from the seller, who is a very friendly person and a life long Jerry Lee Lewis fan. I am entirely convinced that he obtained the signature on the photo in person. He has met JLL on a few other occasions in which he also obtained autographs. He also sent JLL a few items to sign through the mail this past December and January, but the photo is not one of them. He feels that the TTM signatures that he received are spot on compared to the ones he obtained in person.

That is another twist in this story. Part of me wants to believe all the signatures we received ttm are legit (if the ebay guy story is true it points to at least more of them being good) but this much variation by a signer would be unprecedented as far as I know.

I have to say that I am a little more "hardened" on someones story then you are. I have heard everything you can imagine and worse then that I had my ex best friend that I chased autographs with for years sell me fake autographs years ago. Some people consider "in person" and "send ins" as the same thing; I don't. I know of a few that do send ins and someone on the bus signed them. Also; if this guy is a huge fan why would he be selling one he got in person? Unless someone I know who is an honest in person collector shows me one that looks like the ones I think are secretarial; and I know a lot of the collectors; then I stand by my opinion.

I too have encountered my fair share of false stories of provenance. There just seems to be quite a bit of detail provided and a lot of interest in JLL expressed from someone who was under no obligation to even respond to my email. After all, I’m not the buyer of the photo and the seller isn’t trying to sell me anything. Why not just not respond at all? The overall tone of the correspondence gives me the impression that I’m dealing with a fan of JLL who, after having read this thread, is considering the situation objectively and with genuine interest. Also, as I said the seller mentioned obtaining a few signatures through the mail, which I wouldn’t expect had the signature on the photo been obtained that way. I don’t see the problem with selling one autograph when he still has several in his collection. He mentioned three other venues in which he obtained in person signatures. In any case, he did express interest in joining the discussion, so perhaps he’ll be here shortly.

That would be great if he hops on here and shares his experience. I think we are on a path to getting some definitive answers.

Whoever signed the one Ballroom uploaded fixed the second L, adding the hook to the loop. JLL wouldn't fix his signature like that, no genuine signer would, so we know it's not original.
Whether it's secretarial or an outright forgery, I'll leave for others to try to figure out.

If it was an intentional fix, I would expect the hook to be connected to the beginning of the loop. It seems more likely that it was caused by a pause during signing.

I think it's fine, it's one of the VERY rare times he signed it. I didn't say he never signed it, I just said that I was told from a friend of JJL that he did not like to sign it.
