UPDATE: White House JFK letter bought for < $280 is AUTHENTIC & flipped for $1126 !!

Just thought I'd do an update to a posting back on November 10 about a White House JFK letter that was laminated and sold for less than the BIN price of $280. The original seller wasn't sure if it was real, so he let it go for less than $280.

It looked good to me. I just wish I had seen it first. Well, the buyer quickly sent it in to PSA/DNA, and it was certified authentic. I was wondering how the lamination would affect the value. Well, despite the lamination and general poor quality of the letter, it garnered 27 bids and a final price of $1,126.00. Nice flip. I, of course, would have kept it. But that's me. I guess the lesson is always be aware of what you are selling!

Also, I've provided a couple of pics of the letter and the PSA/DNA authentication.

Impressive. How many original bids were there?
The original seller just had it listed as a "Buy It Now" for $279.99 or you could "Make Offer", and the buyer made an offer that was accepted. I don't know how much lower than the BIN price it actually went for. But when I saw it in the completed sales, I was pretty sure it was authentic. It didn't look like any of the secretarial or autopen signatures that I could remember off the top of my head. Then I looked further, and I was sure it was one of the authentic JFK signature styles (his autograph probably varied more than anyone I've ever seen). Then I was wishing I had found it first!

Anyway, the buyer got a steal on this one. I believe PSA/DNA charges $150 for JFK; so if you figure he got the letter for about $250 (maybe less), that means he only had about $400 in it. So that's better than a 100% return in less than a month! But I'm a collector first, and I would have treasured that thing myself.

It originally sold for $240. To find out, click see original listing, then press the print button and the sold price shows up on that page. Shhhhh!

It'll be our secret

+1  :)

Ok, good to know. But really, as the guard in Hogan's Heroes liked to say, "I know nothing!" ;0)
