Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures' or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

I was interested in some of these drawings and the reason why is because they came with Epperson/REAL coas
After following this thread I realized something - there needs to be some sort of regulation on authenticators. They need to back up their claims with a money back guarantee for the price you paid for the items if they are deemed fake
If I had purchased one of these for a pretty penny because of the expert advice only to be proven they see fake I would have been pretty upset.

I know understand and empathize with the person is trying to get their money back for the album they purchased for a substantial amount then finding out it may be a forgery

This examination and investigation is far from complete. The questions should not be solely pointed at Memorabilia Vault. There are 5-6 other individuals, dealers and auction houses involved in the trade and sale of Michael Jackson autographed artwork.

I can assure you that there is much work and investigation going on as we speak, I have had the privilege of performing a physically examination of the artwork and have first hand knowledge of some of the history behind this artwork.

The first important fact that I have located is several pieces that have been noted to be authenticated by Roger Epperson, were in fact never seen nor examined by Roger. That is the reason we should not rush to judgement and it is time to realize that there is much more to authentication then spending 10 minutes and slapping a sticker on an item.

I agree regarding not solely blaming MV. Actually don't blame them at all
They did the due diligence by having an authenticator look at them.

Sam the problem is its not just one entity or person involved. It takes time to figure things out especially when there are multiple lies being told about provenance etc. Hopefully things will be clearer soon.... but for now its just sorting through the mess to get to the bottom of what is going on.

But when someone outs there name to it who classifys themselves as an "expert" they should be held responsible if the items are proven fraudulent aka they should have to reimburse the buyers purchase price

The thing is people buy things because of the word of the "experts" heck even I was interested.

That's why there needs to be regulation and consequences for TPA

I mentioned the other day a Mickey Mouse from the Owen and Cooper auction.

I noticed that on Mickey Mouse-his left (our right) the foot does not go into his boot. Just stops at the top.

So I Google "Mickey Mouse art" and find this MM in the first row of images--w/the leg outside the boot. Clicking it brings me to a deviant artist by the name of d-russo HERE

He uploaded his drawing of Mickey Mouse Feb 26, 2007 (upload stats are bottom right hand corner of a page on Deviant Art)

Then I look at Russo's next MM, where he turns his MM into a poster/ad of sorts. This one is also uploaded Feb 26, 2007 HERE

Reading from Russo's own description on the drawing he writes: This is my second drawning in Illustrator i made it in 2006, the orriginal is an 1935 poster from mickey mouse

Googling 1935 poster Mickey Mouse I find the real Disney drawing - and now you see the leg/foot goes into the shoe.

I also knew Corey and MJ were no longer friends for the last part of MJ's life - in an interview Corey is asked (People Magazine) right after MJ died how he felt. He says.... "Unfortunately Michael and I had a falling out on September 10th 2001 and that broken friendship had never been repaired," Feldman said in a statement on the day of Jackson's death. "All I choose to remember from this point is the good times we shared and what an inspiration he was to me and the rest of the world."

If this is legit and was drawn by MJ, it would have had to be drawn/traced by Michael between Feb 26, 2007 (when it was uploaded) and Michaels death in June 25 2009. It would also need to get from MJ to Corey who he wasn't even speaking to. OR MJ made the exact same mistake as another artist did... years earlier. And just my 2 cents on the Cooper & Owen Mickey -- it looks nothing like what I'm used to seeing of MJ's artistic abilities.

Here is an overlay of the Cooper & Owen auction drawing and Russo's Deviant art Mouse behind it. I again had to skew the corners of the Cooper artwork slightly to allow things to line things up, but no lines in the drawings themselves were touched.
