Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures'  or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

Hello Robert, yes they look ok, nothing out of this world, just average drawings, I said it before, he IS THE UNDISPUTED KING OF POP, A TOTAL MUSICAL GENIUS BUT THAT'S ALL> why argue about his greatness in painting when that only takes chunks of his legacy?

Hello Bernie,

 Yes! we might be arguing a little to much and we dont want to take anything away. We all have different opinions, not just on art but movies, actors, music, politics and so on. I think the most important thing here is to determine his art style, his signature and weed out the bad so that people dont end up paying a fortune for non authentic crap. 

  I think they are doing this.

It will help his legacy

Another 'MJ' drawing for sale, this one unsigned, and described by seller ygor459  of Belleville NJ (where MR Thomas lived) thus:

'Pencil on drawing paper sketch of a man drawn by Michael Jackson. The drawing displays an understanding of proportion, shading and texture unique to an unschooled artist. 7 by 8 1/2 inches. This sketch was given to Michael R. Thomas who was Jackson's make-up artist while Jackson was filming The Wiz in 1978. Jackson and Thomas are shown together in a photo.'

'This' (ie the original) drawing was alluded to in an article by MR Thomas who said:

'When I played the (drawing) game with Michael, I tried to trick him by drawing a few curvy lines that I felt did not suggest a cat. As far as I was concerned, these curvy lines looked nothing like a cat. So I said, “Go ahead, make a cat out of these lines!” And within 30 seconds he had drawn a cat. Not as I would have pictured one, standing on all fours, but a pussycat curled up asleep.

Then he made a couple new drawings on the spot, and I kept them with his blessing. One of the drawings was of a man’s face. It’s pretty sketchy and kind of impressionistic, but there are a couple of eerie similarities between the drawing he made and his own face, later on, after he had so much plastic surgery done'.

That's an easy one, even I can spot it being so fake.

What happens is this seller has a great feedback, and ebay won't touch him/her.

I called once and I was told blatantly that new ebay sellers can't sell dubious items like fakes because NOBODY BEING NEW CAN, I was told once you achieve a good feedback record you won't be bothered, and finally she said (ebay employee) in the meantime you will have to sell generic junk.

Ebay know about all this crap but they will look the other way.

Don't just blame ebay and the forgers, about the buyers? some buy stuff out of impulse and most of the time because they see an autograph for $20.00 and they get it hoping it's a deal?

In my opinion I ask myself what's the need to have an autograph? can we spend the money we earn like in something we can use and enjoy?

The three drawings Mr. Thomas had that were sold by Mrs Thomas are these 3.  The first one is shown in that article you linked to Lizzy.  And all three are shown here on Juliens:

A pillow from avatar1000marinella, who has previously offered both black pen and red pen 'Mickey' drawings.   This pillow (offered at euro 1499) has a label from the Hotel Adlon Kempinski in Berlin, where Michael was filmed at the window with Blanket.  The ebay ( Italy) description mentions a  COA with hologram,  but this is not shown in the ebay listing.  

I have added the  previous 'red Mickey' drawing from this seller for comparison of signatures

Another two drawings offered in the UK that I missed...a red ink drawing offered on UK gumtree in Feb 15 and a black ink drawing offered on UK gumtree in March 2015.

These two bear some similarities to the larger photo of a drawing from Julien's Icons and Idols 2013, which was offered at  around $800 but unsold.

Hi, This Peter pan is visually similar to a series of other 'Pan's sold over the last couple of years.  They were first discussed in this related thread (Erick Lucas, page 8, see link below) where wascher noted that the images appeared to be tracings:

The others which seem to be in the same series have been variously sold at auction eg by Premiere props, and Knaisz,.  Here are some images:

(I don't personally see any evidence that these are genuine MJs)
