One Never knows about Dead Heads.... No no its just what the die hard fans of the GreatFull Dead are called. The Late Mr. Garica was the lead guitarist / singer / songwriter. Its normal to have a piece authenticated as hand drawn original by an expert in the field before offering unknown items for sale. However I am sure a good Dead Head can see a forgery a mile away, so wait for one more familiar then myself. Scott

I actually own an original piece that this almost appears to be a copy of. The one I own was a doodle done by Jerry at the Rainforest Conference at the UN in 1988, coinciding with the Rainforest Benefit show at Madison Square Garden. I acquired the drawing from the official photographer from the event, who was given the drawing by Jerry. He also had pictures of it being drawn along the way. After Jerry gave it to him, unsigned, he nicely asked Jerry to sign it, which he did, also perpendicular like this one. That is extremely rare in the world of Jerry signing anything. The provenance on my piece is about as good as it gets.
Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, my piece is in a safe off site, so I will have to wait until I go visit it to take a detailed photo to compare with this piece.

I appreciate your comment. I am not familiar at all with Jerry Garcia or any art for that matter. I was given this piece that my son acquired and because I did not know what it was I was very skeptical of it's authenticity so I decided to do some investigating about it and I took it to a professional to have it authenticated. Trust me I never thought it was the real deal but according to two different companies it is in fact the real deal. I have papers of authenticity stating this. It is not a copy it is in fact an original according to the professionals that looked at it. I do appreciate your opinion but according to people who do authenticating for a living they say it's the REAL DEAL.

I'm curious, if you don't mind disclosing, who were the two authenticators? I always like to know more authenticators for music related items, in case of emergency.

I am beginning to feel somewhat interrogated by you all in regards to my sketch. one of the companies that I have the authenticity papers from is JSA and I know that they also consult with Roger Ebberson on alot of signatures. In fact it was this website that suggested JSA and Roger Ebberson Thank you
the other certified letter of authenticity was from an E.C. Bryan whom I did not know so that is why I chose to go with another company that was referred to me.

Also, I don't get the feeling it's an interrogation/attack. Many just want to know who authenticated it because different ones are hit or miss.
For example, the various threads on this forum point to even PSA/DNA being hit or miss on music authentication, unless a certain expert actually views the item.
I believe that E.C. Bryan is a forensic document examiner? Forensic Document Examiners generally have a bad name in this hobby. From what I gather, there are two major issues with most. One is experience. Did they actually apprentice for years? That being said, forensic examiners study handwriting comparisons (simplification). They need exemplars. The second issue is the said exemplars. It "seems" that many use faulty books of autographs without actual in-hand exemplars. By faulty, I mean some examples are forgeries...

Also, I think when you said it was authenticated by two different entities, people were merely curious. We know Epperson is pretty good for multiple artists. Different experts specialize in different artists. It's always great to discover a new person that can help out.Anyway, good luck with the sell :)

If E.C. Bryan is Elyn Bryan, I only know her as an authenticator for American Royal Arts, which was the largest seller of music forgeries in the world until they shut down in 2010-11. Their prior main authenticator was Christopher Morales, who has a notoriously bad reputation.

As far as I am concerned you are very accurate in what you say about E.C.Bryan. Because I am not familiar with the art industry or autographs I did ALOT of research on this sketch. I did find ALOT of negative review about this person and that is why I turned to this web site for help. I took the advice that I got and sent a copy of the sketch to Roger Epperson and he was very impressed with it I then took it to JSA and had them evaluate the sketch and when they authenticated it I decided to go with their decision. I am not a collector of art or of autographs and neither is my son. I just want to sell this and help my son with his student loans. Thank you for your help and advice.
