GEORGE "SUPERMAN" REEVES" REAL OR FAKE?

I PURCHASED A GEORGE "SUPERMAN" REEVES PIECE FROM ANTIQUITIES IN LAS VEGAS BACK IN 2004. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL RECEIPT AND PACKING SLIP. I RECENTLY TRIED LISTING IT ON EBAY TO SELL AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A FAKE. CAN I GET VERIFICATION IF THE SIGNATURE BELOW IS REAL OR FAKE? AND IF IT IS FAKE HOW DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?

Here's what I can tell you about the Rolling Stones piece. I have been to many shows and backstage quite a bit. I was able to get many pieces signed. Which are my personal collection and not for sale by the band. Granted I am not an expert. But after looking at my pieces compaired to the piece from Toby I am more confident that it woudl be real unlike the George Reeves piece. With that being said I am not saying the Stones piece is real or fake. But the Reeves pieces is the first one I have had a problem with so I figured I would start there. Maybe my communication is showing what a novice I am to collectible autographs. Which is the point because I was referred to you guys for help to find out whether it is real or not and what the steps are to getting my money back if it is a fake. Once again I appreciate all your help and lively discussion.

I think it is on track, Bob. Granted, Derek needs solid opinions on the autograph first, but should the opinions be negative, he would probably have to spend $750-$1,500 for a forensic document examiner to evaluate his autograph. It's a losing deal. If you didn't read it, Antiquities sold it to him authenticated by Don Frangipani.

I'm not going to be back at my office today after all, so I can't get to our examples until the AM. Just upload yours when you can please.

BTW, did you delete that discussion with Ethel in it? It's gone.

Oh yes, AAU (Drew Max). The same person that "authenticated" the below "500 Homerun Club" autographed baseball that just sold on "Roach's Corner" for a whopping $175.00.

I agree with you completely that Derek should question anything he has bought from them.

I also agree that Autograph Collectors must do intense research about whatever they are interested in buying.

We've seen autographs from Antiquities Las Vegas that we thought were fine. We've seen ones we thought were not. We've seen more we thought were not.

When was the last time you looked at your Rolling Stones piece?

Derek, it's easy for the casual collector to just say "Oh, it must be okay, it looks like the ones I got in person."

Do you see the photo of that awful Mantle autographed baseball I posted? The casual collector will look at that one and an authentic one and not notice the major differences.

Believe me, Derek, I'm not here to hammer you, but hopefully this discussion has educated you. This is why there are a ton more forgeries in the hobby than there are authentic autographs. The casual collector doesn't do any research. The casual collector assumes every autograph on Ebay is authentic (nothing could be further from the truth). The casual collector doesn't know about "Operation Bullpen."
