I have a John F. Kennedy signed Senate letter for sale. I accepted a buyer's Best Offer. Hours went buy, and I never heard anything from him. So I sent him a message saying that as soon as he paid, I would get the item shipped to him right away.

A few more hours passed, and then finally I heard from him. He asked if I could overnight the JFK letter to him because it was a present for a friend's birthday party. He said he would pay the extra cost as I had offered free shipping. I told him that would be fine, and I would get an estimate of how much it cost. I relayed the cost. I said I would charge just $30 for the overnight. A few more hours passed, and I still did not hear anything. So finally I sent a message saying that in order to expedite everything, I would pay for the overnight cost myself if he would pay now.

Well, it's now been almost two days, and the only time I have heard from him was just the one time. So earlier today I sent him a note saying I'm assuming now since he won't respond to anything I send him that he is not planning on paying for the item, and explaining the nice predicament he has caused.

Now I suppose I will have to open a case against him and leave him negative feedback.

But can he retaliate on my feedback even though I've done nothing wrong? Does anyone have experience in this matter?

Also, if anyone is interested, I have a nice JFK Senate letter for sale!

Opening a NPB against a buyer basically closes the feedback process. As a seller, you can't leave negative feedback, and I believe opening the case blocks a buyer from leaving feedback.

Getting your fees back is the top priority. Doesn't ebay do something against the non-payer? That doesn't seem right.

I have had this happen before to me and the only thing you can do is to officially cancel the sale, this will officially happen then and your fees will be returned to you. It is just an ongoing problem with Ebay these days. By the way Ebay have changed the feedback process. Only a buyer can now leave positive and negative feedback. A seller can only leave positive feedback or no feedback. I think this is now a bit unfair but Ebay are now forcing Ebay sellers to offer a very clear and honest service. It puts a lot of power to the buyer, I liked it before when it was the same for each side.

I guess I would suggest to contact him one more time with a nice message and see if he wants the item. Tell him that you are been charged 10% ebay fees at present. If this does not work just do the official cancel an ebay sale process, its a pain but thats the evil of Ebay, I have had this happen a few times in the past.

I think after 4 days (?) you can file a non-paying bidder dispute. Ebay will then try to contact him. If the buyer ignores them, Ebay will cancel the sale, refund any fees and put a strike against the buyer.

In fairness, Ebay should give them a negative as well. Is it like baseball, three strikes and you're out?

I think so, but I can't remember.

Yes, it makes me mad, but someone has to keep their cool in this crazy world! Plus, there are already way too many guns in America (duly noted by an American).
Thanks to everyone for their advice. I did open a case with eBay today. But they said I could not leave negative feedback! But there will be a mark against the buyer's account, and if he has too many, he could be suspended.

He has four days now to pay.
