RR auction is now offering 4 months credit great we can all bid that little bit more and stretch for that item we really want ..wait unless you are a non US bidder then you cant the 4 months credit is available only to US buyers clearly giving them a massive bidding advantage thats a real kick in the nuts for anyone not living in the states

That is a shame, maybe there are some legal issues that mean they will be too exposed if they offered it to overseas bidders. Hopefully they will reconsider.
Have you asked them what their reasons are? And whether it is likely to change?
i believe they are looking into it for overseas buyers but i think it is legal issues with credit ,shame but add this to the extra shipping ,customs charges at 20% + customs fees and money conversion costs etc we just cant hope to compete with US buyers a $500 winning bid for me turns into a $900+ bill all in ,i know there are UK auction houses but most of the good stuff for me is in the states i backed out of a few items last night that had i been in the States i would have gone further on
Yes, it all certainly adds up, it hurts buying at UK auctions, but bidding/buying LPs and the like from outside the EU is pretty much impossible due to the added cost of shipping and import (my RR purchases have primarily been books which are free of import). And it is such a shame we don't have something similar to RR over here, but I suppose (like many other things) the biggest market is in the US.
The fees in the live auctions do add up. I always calculate those in my bid considerations. That's why I rarely win anything on those auctions. As for the credit, it is one of those temptations that one has to be careful with. It can be a double edged sword.
I'm small time but I rarely even look at their site. The add-on costs are killer.
Default is 20%, but I'm sure big time consignors get 10-15%. That's pretty standard. But the consignment fee is supposed to cover things like payment processing for credit card transactions, which RR doesn't pay. I would have reservations consigning a high dollar item to a place that doesn't accept credit cards, I have to believe that limits the buyer pool quite a bit.
as auctions go RR is one of the better sites their shipping is reasonable unlike some sites but it still all adds up ,to me though if they cant offer the credit to all bidders they shouldnt really offer it at all
