Steve asked me to start a new thread since some were having a lot of issues with regards to whether or not the through the mail autographs of Jerry Lee Lewis are real or not.  I will post some examples of what we have been getting recently and some know in person examples.   These TTM signatures are not cheap.  You have to pay $50 for them to his box office box.  The question is are they real or not.  Roger has said that he has never seen Mr. Lewis sign this way and it looks to perfect - like a woman's signature.

Please post your thoughts here and examples.

thanks

Mark

It was being compared to one of the alleged Whitten exemplars. It bears a striking resemblance to that signature, has been authenticated by JSA, and now we learn that it is an in-person example.

Ballroom,

You know as well as anyone that you don't call an autograph authentic because the subject possibly could have signed it. You call it authentic if evidence that they did sign it is significantly greater than evidence that they didn't.

In the case of the books, the evidence that JLL didn't sign them is dramatically greater than evidence that he did.

If you put the Hendrix autographs in the Liz Shaw datebook to the same tests you put JLL autographs to, they'd all be genuine.

Where did I call an autograph authentic because the subject possibly could have signed it, and where is the compelling evidence that JLL didn’t sign the books? This would only be the case if one only scratches the surface and ignores any evidence to the contrary. As far as I’m concerned, it’s exactly the opposite. The authentic traits contained within and spread across multiple book signatures is extremely compelling. I can’t see how anyone other than JLL could have possibly signed those books.

I see where the Sun 45 of Breathless that I obtained is being discussed. I can certainly verify it is 100% authentic as I obtained it personally and saw JLL sign it. This happened as he was getting into his car to leave after his concert in Charlotte, NC on 10/13/95. I handed him the 45 and a silver paint pen, thinking I would get a huge bold signature on the black vinyl, not the cramped signature on the label. The thickness of the ink definitely makes it nearly impossible to see any fine detail. Still a long way from looking like the book signatures though.

Thanks Mark for posting the information on it!

Mark

I had no idea that was a 20-year-old autograph when I commented on it, Mark. I don't understand why it was even used for comparison knowing that.

Good job, Cyrkin. You're making lots of friends today.

It's time to start bringing the two Jerry Lee Lewis autograph discussions to a close and put together a signature study from the information and opinions collected in this discussion and the one on the signed books:

http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/jerry-lee-lewis-new-...

We'll start with a vote on the autographs in the books. We'll take that vote in the book discussion, and only members who participated in that discussion or this one may vote.

Here's the scale:

5: You're sure the autographs in the books seen were signed by JLL.

4: You think they were probably signed by JLL.

3: You aren't sure whether they were signed by JLL or not.

2: You think they probably weren't signed by JLL.

1: You are positive the books seen were not signed by JLL.

We'll tally the findings and go from there. Then we'll take votes in this discussion, which will be more complicated since there are so many types and variations to review.

We'll come to conclusions where we can based on the majority opinions and personal experiences and publish them in a signature study, as well as rebuttal from dissenting opinions. That way fans, collectors and dealers won't have to go through 130+ pages to decide what to do.

You can start voting in the book forum at half past the hour.

Just wondering if anyone has mailed a $100 request to JLL in recent months. I've been meaning to do it for quite some time, but haven't gotten around to it.
