I am hoping someone here can help me out. I have this signed photo and have been searching to figure out which concert tour or era this picture was taken. Any clues would be most appreciated.

can u post it on here.. I only joined a couple of weeks ago

Will do but need to master my new PC and scanner first. Hopefully will manage it tomorrow. In the meantime, any other 1980s examples would be gratefully received.

Well I managed to master my new equipment a little quicker than I thought I would so here is my example. I presume it is more or less contemporary to the photograph, which is from 1985.

It is a very good quality double-weight pearl finish photograph with all the appropriate copyright stamps (I collect photography as well as many other things).

I attach a certificate of authenticity. I didn't buy the autograph from Trish. Indeed, I had no idea that the item even had a certificate when I bought it. It just came with it in the post.

I am no authority on Madonna and I cannot seem to find many pre-1990 examples so although it feels right I am a little nervous of your feedback.

Hello its a original press photo - however the signature is indeed a fake.....that signature is not close to  Madonna's signature at any timeframe...I am sorry to have to tell you this

That was quick!

What are the things that stick out as being "wrong" with the signature? If there are many you could maybe just list the top three.

If you have any other examples from the mid-80s it would be interesting to compare them.

If anyone else has any thoughts or mid-80s examples I'd be interested to hear/see them. As far as I know, Trish is fairly well known in the autograph field and I believe contributed to the Autograph Collector magazine that Steve edited.

check out my like a virgin tour book signed  I just posted..its all there

Kamran,

Here are Eva's and your Madonna autographs together. Would you mind making your case for why you think yours is real and Eva's isn't? With good examples please. After all, Eva's just a dog.

ok  here is what I summise on Eva's that do not look right at all...the 'VE' of love is non existence...the 'M'  of Madonna is way out of proportion to her usual signature of 1985....the 'a' is not there...and Madonna does not overlap over her 'O' in originals, she has a strand above the 'O' and not going through it...the pen never leaves the paper its written in 1 movement...in Eva's it has been written in 1 action but there are extra curves as well..which I have never seen in any of my 80's signatures....I summise Eva's was done by a forger after a good few practices on plain paper studying a real one too I am certain, but to write LOVE MADONNA in 1 action in Madonna's hand and her distinct style and proportion will be hard, hence most fakers go for the 90's signature to fake...but the 80's originals are the superior specimen of a good clear Madonna...and their values are rising way quicker than before....her signature from 2007 onwards most of the time is 'Lo..Mad...squiggle'..and again its all in 1 movement of the hand...but most cannot make it out...

Thanks, Kamran. Can you post some known genuine exemplars that have similar characteristics to your Madonna on the tour program above Eva's?

Love the discussion and the 90's!  Here's my two Madonna's - excuse one having a watermark across it from when purchased.  These two are in frames on the wall.

For me the jury is still out on my (admittedly one and only) Madonna.

I am not totally convinced about the "o" and "a" points you make Kamran. I can see the point about the large "M" and extra curves but these are seen in some later signatures and I/we don't know for sure that mine was actually signed in 1985.

I think you have to bear in mind that the pen and paper used are atypical (usually she is writing in thick marker pen on a very glossy surface). I have well over a hundred autographs and this one just has the right feel about it in terms of flow and age.

In one of your earlier posts Kamran, you mentioned that Madonna's autograph is sharper and more pointed than the example that kicked off this discussion. My example certainly cannot be faulted in terms of sharpness and pointedness. Maybe almost too much so I grant you.

I ask myself whether a forger would go to the effort of forging a signature from a more difficult time period and use a lovely vintage original double-weight stamped press photo for the purpose. I could see the photo alone being worth well over $100, maybe more than double that in the right hands. I also think that Trish would not authenticate lightly.

If we could see more 1980s examples, and particularly examples written on non-glossy surfaces using biro or fountain pen, that would be interesting. I guess cheques and contracts are out because she would be signing under her real name and without much of a flourish.
