Vincent Price authentic?
I’ve been looking to purchase a Vincent Price sketch/autograph. This one has a JSA certification. I called JSA to ask when it was certified and was told they don’t keep records of that, which I found surprising. Anyone see any concerns with this one?
The only thing I find curious is if the Best of luck or the signature was first based on when the O and the P cross. The autograph is from 1981 according to the seller.

Not a fan of dried pen signatures. I'd have waited for a less problematic item. That is his self portrait - no fly on the ear. :/ That his been trimmed to match the cert? :(

That means nothing to me. The signature seems a bit odd but in the range. I just don't like the presentation - stronger can be had Here is my 1959 Price and from Price's daughter a playfull candid from The House on Haunted Hill:

John is looking specifically for a sketch. Anyone know when Price began rendering those self-caricatures for fans?

p.s. I only recall seeing Price sketches on the market done with a fiber tip pen. Maybe he only began doing them in his later years?

Me too - ballpoint, fibre. Since some have a fly we know a possible mimum date. I suspect he started drawing these quite a bit later

I view these Price sketches with the same amount of skepticism as I've had toward the James Stewart "Harvey" sketches & the Alfred Hitchcock self-caricature sketches. My gut tells me that most on the market are fakes.

That was not an acceptable answer from JSA to say that they don't keep records of their certifications. If you go on their site and look up the number for this, there is an option given of contacting them for a full LOA.

LOA's from them always have dates of submission on them. How could they potentially issue one as an upgrade option if they don't have a record of when they first examined it for certificaiton?

They told me I would need to send them a photo of the JSA sticker and the item and they could issue an LOA. They said they have no records on this item other than what we all can see when we look up the certification on their website.
I was very surprised by this, you would think they have a database with all this info.

That makes no sense at all on JSA's part. Who's to say someone unscrupulous doesn't now send over a scan of a real sticker but switches out the earlier certified item? I know why they want an image of the item for an upgrade...so it can be placed on that online entry and on the LOA. But again, what if it's been switched out? JSA would have no proof one or the other.
And if they don't have a date of the original in hand examination, then they would be listing when they received the later scans as the submission date.
That's off subject a bit...but your point remains about their record keeping and database.

In regards to Vincent Price, is a signed check a safe bet? I see a handful for sale. Just not sure if he signed all his checks, but the signature looks right.

That is his signature but why not learn the sig and get something nice? He isn't rare or scarce, except perhaps in vintage form.
