The first Joe DiMaggio, in my opinion, is authentic.

The second one is most likely authentic but, personally, the first ball's signature is one I am more comfortable with.

Thanks Mike, I am also pretty sure the first is ok but the second is really the one I have in question. Maybe ill get a few more opinions on here

Both are authentic in my opinion. I know some people may not like those "g's" in the second one, but I'm pretty confident that is an authentic DiMaggio style. And frankly, the second one, if authentic, is a nicer looking signature.

I really don't like either of these...

The first one has huge identical elementary cursive "g"s. Joe D's "g"s were hardly ever identical, or that huge. It also lacks speed/confidence IMO. I actually like the formation better on the marker one, but due to overall lack of "swiftness" I do not like it either.

Here's a little chart I made that can help you spot certain things on Joe D sigs that forgers just can't get right:

Also here is what he provided to the FBI to assist with "Operation Bullpen":

Great chart, Ryan. Very helpful. I was actually not super confident in the first one and should have said so. Now that I look at it again, I tend to agree with you. Regarding the second one, I know I've seen PSA/DNA pass a few with similar "g's", but, of course, we know they don't always get it right. That's interesting that Joe didn't usually get both "g's" the same. Thanks for the great information you provided. It will help a lot in the future when looking at more Joe D. material.

No problem, Joe D is hard sometimes. There are no doubt authentics, brutal forgeries, and then a wide range in between that can be problematic.

If I saw either of these on eBay I would pass, but if you actually own them Nicholas and can get a good deal with JSA then by all means go for it. You could also do a "quick opinion" from PSA/DNA for $10 each which may be even cheaper.  Let us know the results.

Yeah I have had this balls for a while now, I have studied Joe for a while and he is by far the hardest for me to figure out. I may just do a quick opinion bc it will be way faster but sometimes think they don't really give much thought on those. Again you guys are great! And I love the hobby so any help is good at this point. I have a 1951 Mantle Sig I will post tonight for you guys to see. It's my favorite in my collection
Ryan thank you! I have had a bunch of different opinions on them both and I think for grins I will send them to JSA. ( a buddy of mine has a shop and it is super cheap) All of you guys are great and for a novice like myself. Now for a more important question..... Is the forum on Tapatalk? Lol

So I had lunch today with a few friends ( one that has JSA cert for him ) to watch the HOF announcements. He sent pics of the Joem balls to both guys that cert for JSA and the verdicts where.....

1. Blue ink is authentic but black is not

2. Both are authentic

with that being said I think I will cert them both but it does make you think that it really is just the opinion of the person certing the autograph.

Thanks again guys]

I have looked at both of these several times, but hesitated to comment because I am just not sure.  I share Ryan's concerns.  Could they be authentic, it is possible. but would I want either of them in my collection?  Probably not.

Just joined the discussion but I think both are authentic. Not great examples but authentic.

I don't like the first one.  Just my opinion. The second one like Ryan said with the GG that looks better to me than the first.   But I am def. not a Joe D expert.  I know the GAI Joe D`s those are obvious forgeries.  Joe D is hard for me to figure out too.
