I've seen signatures much later than 1988 that look similar to stuff he signed 20 or 30 years beforehand.  His autograph was actually pretty consistent through his entire life with only minor changes. This looks way off in every aspect.  At any rate, looking at the items I have signed by DiMaggio with signatures stretching from the 1960's - the 1990's I would have no hesitation in saying I think the one you posted is fake. 

Did your friend tell you he saw this signed?

Here is one signed a couple years before your friend "says" he got yours signed and you can easily see the differences.  I would ask him if he personally saw DiMaggio sign that item and if he says he did I would call in to question anything you have ever purchased from him that wasn't authenticated by a major authenticator.

I agree with Jason. I think the one you're showing is definitely fake. To me, both the "J" and the "D" look pretty bad. Also, Joe D. pretty much always dotted above the last "i" and somewhere below it. Yours only has the dot above the "i". Of course, most forgers are aware of this as well.

Thanks guys! No he did not personally see it signed. I own about 6-7 PSA or JSA Joe D's and nothing that looks identical so I figured I would throw it up here and get an opinion. I appreciate reading here so I figured this would be a good first post.

He also will give me the money back for it without issue.
