You know sometimes on eBay, you can find some pretty good buys. But many other times, sellers set unrealistic prices for their items. An auction recently completed by Leland's for a John Lennon signed book contrasts markedly from the over-inflated price being asked for a John Lennon signed cut on eBay. While they both have doodles, the much cheaper Leland's item is a much higher-quality item.

The Leland's Lennon sold for $2817 after the buyer's premium was assessed. It is a "Grapefruit" book with a beautiful inscription, autograph and two doodles, while the eBay item is an encapsulated cut which has been creased up quite a bit with an asking-price of $5999.99.

On eBay, for the most part, you would come away thinking that a Lennon cut is generally about $4000. But at auction houses you can often find a much better product for a great deal less. Here are links along with pics below. First and second pic are Leland's.

ebay sellers are in dreamland. that is why you see the same items, year after year, with the same ridiculous BIN price.  if they put it up for auction, they would be lucky to realize half of those prices.

Yes, some are outrageous. The captain of that ship I think is probably "historydirect". They usually want about 6x - 8x what the real going rate for an item is. They want about $31,000 for a JFK White House letter which might go for $4K to $8K depending on content. And their other stuff is similarly over-priced. Apparently they sell some stuff, but to whom?

Oh don't even start me on Historydirect and their prices.  It could be a long thread!!!!

lol.
