The key words are "obtained by myself". It is fine to say an autograph was obtained "in person" as long as the evidence is there. Although, unless the seller was personally involved with obtaining the autograph directly, he/she should not add the "by myself" part.
i know plenty so called top ip that dont actacly see stuff signed in front of them.they done one person say at airport other does letterman and hotel and so on then they all get together.
or swap info from airport say lax to jfk
I posed the question "What does 'in person' mean?" several years ago, because it seems like the term is used so loosely in this hobby. http://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/define-in-person?com...
in person means only if u got it personaly and witness it. thats all it can mean .
when i sell stuff here i tell people if i personaly got the signitures my self
But that's not how it's being used. Plenty of sellers - even highly regarded ones - seem to use the term quite liberally. I've seen dealers buy off other collectors and resist that item as "in person." And, of course, many dealers who run larger operations have a crew of collectors. This, to me, weakens the term because it still leaves the door open for problems (i.e. rogue collectors).
It's also seemed to me that the term was used a lot - perhaps more years ago - to differentiate from TTM autographs and served as little to no indication that the seller had anything to do with getting it himself.
Of the 4 or 5 guys I buy from, one uses workers but they are with him. The others are lone wolves and most have regular jobs so they collect and sell extras. Its all about dealing with decent, reputable people. There is too much trading and buying between most of those guys to suit me. Its all about trust so beware,a lot of guys lie though their teeth! If they did not see the item signed in person they are lying.
