yeah, maybe it's just the marker they used because they all have a strange textured look that looks different from most signatures with a regular sharpie. I'm probably just being paranoid, I felt pretty good about them when they sold out almost immediately on Newbury, and then they were on sale for a very long time on Amazon and I started to wonder.
Its great that you question authenticity and a very good habit to get in to for every autograph you receive. I love the Backstreet boys but I wouldn't hesitate one second to call them out if I thought these were fake, I totally get your concerns
Combining this degraded print/image with that paper texture/appearance and that ink is deliberate IMO. I would stay away just on poor quality.
I really don't care for this - the sigs, real as they may be, look part of the image. The silver ink has a LOT of the paper texture/appearance coming through so strongly as to interrupt the overall presentation.
I actually like the matt finish for the "art card". I'm sure they didn't design these cards with the type of marker that will be used for signatures in mind. Its a copy of the cd cover, Silver is the obvious choice but it probably wasn't the best decision to use with this texture.. even still, for what it is, I'm happy
I definitely love that one, but not sure if its fair to compare a booklet to an art card. Art cards, to me, by nature are going to be lower quality but I've given up the fight against them and just accept what I receive as long as the signatures are real. I've seen both extremes, Matt like this BSB example and extreme glossy for others where the ink bubbles in spots for certain signatures.. From what I've seen, booklets are consistent with their finish for the most part and will always be superior. I'm curious, did you buy your own Backstreet Boys copy? I only ask because there is a difference seeing it in person compared to the scans shown on this thread. The matt finish does make the image noticeably softer than the actual cd cover, but in person, I wouldn't say its terrible enough to stay away from. I still appreciate your thoughts on this either way.. Its just another reason why I wish these promotions would just stick to booklets and stop this art card nonsense
To my thinking an art card should supersede a CD booklet in quality. What art is going to be of less quality then a CD booklet.
I really feel they shouldn't be called "art cards".. usually they are just cardstock with printed images.. these never seem to come from a photo lab but there are exceptions, then again, sometimes they are paper thin as well, there is no consistency to them and you for sure never know what you will receive compared to when you know the actual booklet will be signed
"Insert" would be best I guess.
I do not collect Backstreet Boys. This product would only reinforce my decision.
I just checked the original listing. Newbury listed these as inserts. Im curious now as to what products we've all purchased in the past were listed as an art card vs insert. Just did a quick search for a few that were listed as an "art card". Right away I see Ed Sheeran, Imagine Dragons and Shinedown and Elton johns Lockdown. They all varied in quality. I believe Shinedown was extremely thin but will recheck later tonight.
Thinking about it now, I do not believe I've ever seen an item actually listed as an art card with such an extreme matt finish. However, there definitely is no set standard for quality even when an item is listed as an "art card". In my experience, ive learned to accept these words could be used interchangeably when ordering an item. You really can't ever know what you will actually receive. Its a good point to bring up and might be wise to explore this more in another thread.
Overall, im not going to stop buying these preorders because of potential quality issues that may pop up with these art card / inserts.
