Signatures are genuine classic Fab 4. The dampness and mildew, unfortunately, created mold, which will probably require professional attention.
Agree it certainly looks like mold to me as well. It’s also a rather large area of the cover that is damaged and as fate would have it that’s where the signatures are located.
I think it can be cleaned up but it would be expensive and always have the “treated” connotation. If you could buy it for less than £5000 it might be worth the effort.
It’s too far gone with the black mould…to have it restored which kills it for me and some collectors don’t like it.
It was a trend a few years to have items restored, tend to be US dealers/collectors. I’ve seen some of the best restorer’s in the past and they all go over the signatures with transparent varnish and the black text on the sleeve and match the white colour and spray it with like a acrylic paint.
It looks ok from a distance but you can tell it has been played about with when you get up close, you lose the indentation of the signatures as well.
It is what it is.
Autographs are fine...you could get a restorer to clean up the album....
That's a fair whack - over £10,000/$12,000. That said, a big time dealer could have it expertly restored for maybe $2-3k and sell it on for double the total outlay.
