I agree. The 'thanks' is definitely his writing too. Like Terrier said, it could be a pre-print, but I think it might not be, since it looks like a more rushed signature than they'd probably use for a pre-print.

I agree. The signature is real. As Terrier and Edward noted, pre-prints are always a concern with photos, as well as copies.
