Hi Guys,
Just joined the site and hoping someone can help. Bladerunner is literally my favourite movie and i've always been tempted to buy a signed poster however most of the time they are only asking a very small amount under £100 which seems way too low to be real (even though they insisist they are real sigs etc!)
https://www.amazon.com/Blade-Runner-Signed-Harrison-Poster/dp/B01G4...
However, I came across this one which is ten times what the others are asking and seems more in the ball park of what I would 'think' this would cost (not being an expert on that myself)
When I looked at the description I noticed it says the authentication is 1.jpgdone by a company called Antiquities of California. Assuming this was an indepedant third party, I emailed them asking them to verify if they did indeed autheticate this and it turns out they are the same people selling it! So in essensse..they have self-verified it!? This raised a red flag for me and I thought I would seek further guidance before committing to such an expensive piece.
I would like to post my email exchange with them also below if that is ok for further provenance and I open this up to anyone and everyone to comment for or against?
Thankyou very much!
Terry - UK

Subject: Re: QueryWe will have a third party authentication if that makes you feel more comfortable. We use Guaranteed Forensic Authenticators (GFA) that does forensic analysis on all of the signatures. They have a 17 point forensic authentication process that test to verify all of the signatures. They are court approved, and are the leading forensic authentication company here in the states. The poster will come will a full report of tests taken and their findings. I've attached an example of the tests they do.I'll be happy to do this poster for $1100, with the third party authentication, and our own authentication as well. As I've said previously, we've been in business for 34 years now, and stand behind all of our pieces 100%.Please let me know if you have any further questions, I'll be happy to address any queries. All the best,Yves-LangstonOn Mon, Sep 12, 2016 at 11:58 AM, Terry Ryan wrote:Thanks but I'm not comfortable that your authentication service is carried out in house apose to an independent party.

Personally, I would never buy a Harrison Ford without requesting Pete Chuka look at it. He has studied him better than anyone in my opinion (and many others). Look for his Star Wars Group on here he might know where to get a Blade Runner poster.
There are a lot of unscrupulous people trying to make an easy buck with a cheap poster and ink! The profits are enormous. Ebay has a lot of great looking stuff but always keep in mind at least 60% is fake. Now that's an approximation, some will say lower ,most will say higher!
They've been giving people the business for 34 years.
It is just my opinion, but you may do far better picking up individual signed 8x10 pieces and framing them together. Harrison Ford is obviously the key signature and Coolwaters has indeed done signings with both Harrison and Sean Young, last I saw they have shots signed by both still available. Scott and Hauer are readily available on 8x10 as are Joe Turkel Edward James Olmos, M. Emmit Walsh, James Hong, Joanna Cassidy and William Sanderson. Hannah is a bit tougher and Brion James may cost a small fortune, but he did one Major convention before he passed.
Any poster out there will not have all these names.
Thankyou Pete. Really appreciate all you guys comments as you have already stopped me from getting burned and I really like your idea of the 8X10. I have searched Coolwater but they only have Ford and Young as far as I can see and on photos with backgrounds etc - is the idea you cut the autograph from it and stick to the Bladerunner poster?
Not at all. The idea is that you can get a specialized matte cut with multiple 8x10 windows, or you just use the space on the wall where you would hang a poster but instead you put multiple 8x10 frames (side by side and over and under one another). You can even put a 11x14 or 11x17 repro poster in the center, with the 8x10's of characters you want all around.
A Bladerunner poster with all the names you would want can be thousands of dollars. I would guess $7000+.
You do the 8x10 or smaller than poster size and you will be in for half that amount depending of course on the exact layout that you like.
If you are thinking about cut outs, skip the photos entirely.....and go with index cards. Again going with a repro smaller sized poster then you mat the signatures all around the repro poster.
They would look some thing like this.
Index cards are where I started my collection, for exactly this purpose. Every film that I love has lost some cast member or multiple cast members, the posters that you can get signed today will never be complete in my opinion.....so why bother? Nearly every actor or director has signed slips of paper or album pages in their careers.
What you have to decide now is exactly who you would want cards from, and A. slowly over time pick up the pieces you want or B. buy a set from some lunatic like me. Once you have the set in hand, you pic the center piece image that you like and head on down to the frame shop.
http://coolwatersprods.com/index.php is the site, and it looks as if the sale they ran for Labor Day has put a good sized dent in their stock.
There is nothing wrong with the Ridley.....but here is where you should consider the budget you have set for the project. Nearly $400 for Ridley signed poster + framing + the remaining index cards that you want.
Or go with an unsigned 11x17 print and a Ridley index card (which would be under $100 + framing + remaining cards.
Ford, Brion James & Hannah, if you choose to go that deep, will be the big money names. You may choose to save some of that $400.
A good modern Ford index card can run up to $500-$600, vintage full signature can double that price range. Hannah maybe $150-$200. Brion James... a lined or inscribed card will be $500, uninscribed nice white card $700+.
It's all about budget, you tell me where you want to go and who you want in the set. I will give you some options. If you love the Scott poster ....snag it, but know that some of the other cards can be pricey......
Available here to you are Ford, Hannah, James, Young, Turkel, Hauer, Cassidy, Olmos, Walsh, Sanderson, Paull, and Scott ....you pick who and I'll get you some prices.
and if you choose to go right overboard I even have an old nonrelated paperback signed by PKD if you feel like dropping $2500 on a tiny signature.
Pete what can I say thanks again lol!
I think I would do one of three options now:
1) just snag the ridley poster and that's it, end of (as he and ford are the key players for me on this piece)
2) ask you what it would cost for your ford and scott index cards and have them inserted into my normal blade runner poster (like cut out then inserted so they come through from the back?)
3) ask you what it would cost for your set there of 12 index cards and buy a small retro poster and go for the card mounting thing like you showed above
Are all the bladerunner sigs you have on the same size white index card?
Thanks!
Terry
