A message posted by Bob Dylan to his Facebook account

To my fans and followers,

I’ve been made aware that there’s some controversy about signatures on some of my recent artwork prints and on a limited-edition of Philosophy Of Modern Song. I’ve hand-signed each and every art print over the years, and there’s never been a problem.
However, in 2019 I had a bad case of vertigo and it continued into the pandemic years. It takes a crew of five working in close quarters with me to help enable these signing sessions, and we could not find a safe and workable way to complete what I needed to do while the virus was raging. So, during the pandemic, it was impossible to sign anything and the vertigo didn’t help. With contractual deadlines looming, the idea of using an auto-pen was suggested to me, along with the assurance that this kind of thing is done ‘all the time’ in the art and literary worlds.
Using a machine was an error in judgment and I want to rectify it immediately. I’m working with Simon & Schuster and my gallery partners to do just that.

With my deepest regrets,
Bob Dylan

Some users have uncovered potential autopen use within Bob Dylan's expensive art prints. Please check your prints if you own one and post a picture on this thread if you have any concerns.

*UPDATE -  Let this be a warning to ALL publishers and celebrities in the future. We are sick and tired of these autopen releases. Our community has had enough and absolutely will not stand for this practice to continue any longer!!!

I want to point out that Coles Books needs to be commended. They made sure to look out for their customers and refused to ship these out if they came from the same S&S stock, which they did. It was also an easy process to cancel orders beforehand if you wished. Coles. on behalf of everyone, I want to thank you for having integrity and watching out for all of us.

I can NOT say the same about Premiere Collectibles. They refused to honor cancelation requests until it was known these books were in fact autopenned. They advertise themselves claiming they are collectors themselves. This is not true. They are a retailer first and only care about your money. There have been other autopen incidents where they absolutely refused to accept blame, stating items were real when they were clearly deemed autopen by the community. Be careful with future purchases with Premiere Collectibles.

This email came directly from Jonathan Karp at Simon and Schuster. If anyone still wishes to send him a message, here is his email address as well.

jonathan.karp@simonandschuster.com

We apologize for the mistake that was made and are offering a full refund of your purchase.  Please keep your copy of The Philosophy of Modern Song at no cost. We hope you will enjoy reading it.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Karp

ORIGINAL POST

I am creating this thread as a comprehensive all in 1 link for returns, refunds, chargebacks and claims made regarding the "signed" edition of Bob Dylan - The Philosophy Of Modern Song. Please use this link to email Simon & Schuster, Coles, and Premiere Collectables as 100% proof these were signed using an autopen machine.

I would like to say right off the bat, Coles Books in the UK is handling this professionally and seem to care deeply about their customer base. They have stated that, once they are in hand, If they find evidence of them being autopenned, they will cancel all orders.. Kudos to Coles.. I wish all retailers would follow their lead. If you wish to cancel your order with them immediately instead of waiting, It seems to be an easy process.

This post will be continuously updated with new information over the next few days

Please refer to this article for the time being until more information is added

Here is the post I created a few weeks ago with info regarding the Indigo incident.

https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/indigo-bob-dylan-po...

So far, there have been a total of 17 confirmed different templates for the autopen machine used for Bob Dylans signature. I am in the process of creating video comparisons for all 17 sets. Please post full page photos of your item as they are delivered to aid in this process

Here are all 17 templates used by Bob Dylan - I am still looking for full page photos for numbers 8,13 and 15 thru 17 but its still best to post whatever you receive

Be aware when checking against your own copy, it has come to light that they are possibly using 1st and last names interchangeably. Bob in #2 matches perfectly with Bob in #13 while Dylan in both are different

14th variation confirmed

15th variation

16th variation - Seems to be almost an exact combination of #11 and #13 with a different vertical line in his "D"

17th variation

Dolly Parton is also guilty of using multiple autopens in the same fashion with multiple templates over the years but with a slight twist where they manipulate the page as the autopen machine writes her signature. If we are looking to stop all future attempts at autopen usage, she needs to be held accountable just as much as Bob Dylan and S&S. Link to threads below

Here is a great example provided by Eric Keith Longo

First let’s learn how to read. Bob never stated he didn’t sign his prints. He stated he signed all his prints.
Bob talked about vertigo in 2019 that really doesn’t have much to do with signing. The reason he didn’t sign was the pandemic. He stated that he had trouble signing during the pandemic.
In 2019 there was no pandemic. There was no pandemic in the beginning of 2020. Please. You’re all a bunch of sleuths. I beg you. Call castle galleries ask when he did the signing for drawn blank 2020. It was before the pandemic. Get back to us. I’m not sure what art came after these prints but I know from drawn blank 2020 and before they’re hand signed. I haven’t paid attention to the others. Please. Call the gallery. They have a record of it. I’m gonna say it was before March

Our daughter was born in Feb 2020 and we were blessed being some of the last couples to be able to spend days in the room together. Ill never forget how quick things changed that march.. no one cared much at all about the pandemic in February.  So if he was scared (possible as most people were) he would not have set autopens up until March the earliest. If any sooner, the pandemic is an excuse to rob his fans, just as vertigo is being used

I’m sure you saw my reply. So I erased it

Not saying you're right or wrong, but at this point why would anyone believe what Bob or any of his associates say? Unless there's physical proof (video of him signing each print, or at minimum photos) anyone who's making money on these shouldn't be trusted... they'll all lie if it's convenient to them. They've already shown their willingness to lie till they got caught.

Should we trust Castle Galleries word, like we rusted Jonathan Karp, the CEO of a major publisher that put his personal guarantee that we were getting hand signed books? They all lied and denied till they were caught red handed and faced major lawsuits for multi-millions in fraud. Then suddenly everyone remembered they used autopen and screwed the fans. So I don't see what good calling Castle would do. Nobody can prove if or when he signed anything. If they kept track why didn't they keep track that he used autopen since 2020 supposedly.

So you may be right or wrong about it... but in my mind calling Castle means nothing. If they didn't already know they were fake and lied about it, then at minimum they're incompetent at their jobs, if they don't notice their prints all got matching signatures. I assume they are in possession and see all the prints they sell. Then they lied and said they're hand signed, or didn't know which makes them incompetent, so their word on anything is fairly irrelevant. If they tell us the dates should we believe them or did they make a mistake on that too like they did thinking they're hand signed? If someone tries robbing me, I'm not going to ask their accomplice if their buddy is innocent or not, I don't think I'd trust anything they say.

What Bob says means nothing. I don't buy the vertigo excuse... and he straight up said the vertigo continued into the "pandemic years" so I'm not sure why you said others need to learn how to read. He couldn't find 5 people to help him sign but has found plenty of people to help him do shows? That makes no sense whatsoever and is a poor excuse.

I just told you they were signed before march. Go call them and see if I’m correct is what I’m telling you. They were signed in 2020.

Oh I said they need to learn to read bc he said he had trouble signing during then pandemic. Not during 2019 like some were insinuating by saying he said he autopen signs his prints like a blanket statement. That’s not what he said.
Look I’m not impressed with his statement. I posted my retort.

He said it takes 5 people on close quarters. In other words he didn’t want 5 people on top of him that close.

I'm glad you called him out on FB. Not many people were last I looked. Most were defending him... I don't use Facebook or I would have put in my 2 cents. Not that he reads the comments anyway, but good for the fans who are trying to defend him to see that not everyone is happy with him. I'm sure none of those people put out the money and got ripped off either though. It's a lot easier to defend someone when you weren't the victim of their crime. I just hope at minimum this stops some future autopen... but it would be nice if they sent a real signature as a courtesy to those who got fake ones... that might make up for some of the frustration this has caused. I guess that'll be the last say on if he really cares about fans or not, and would gain him back some of the respect he lost.

Ink whatever tf your name is. You can make fun of me all you want. I joined here to help contribute to a database of photos of signatures of autopen. I think I gave at least 8 different matches. That’s about half. How DARE you accuse me of anything other than good intentions. I’ve been nothing but straight forward.

And the only prints you have autopen confirmation for is this last bunch. You still have no proof of anything 2020 or before. And no Dylan did not admit that he autopen signed all his prints. He said he did during the pandemic. Read the post. I mean you’re accusing  me of shady intentions. Keep going. You’ll lose all integrity. Just like Bob if he keeps this crap up.
