I am always wary of these sort of cuts - what did they come from? Extra work required. Post some exemplars - you should have a file.

Thank you for your response Eric.

Prior to posting, I try to find likely authentic exemplars for comparison.  For each of these three signatures, I was able to find several signed items in the RR Auction archive and other online resources.  Based on these comparisons, my assessment was the Greenstreet signature and personalization looked pretty good.  However, the Lorre and Veidt looked off.  However, I also was concerned these each looked like newer ink on vintage but unaged paper.

I have previously posted examplars for other signatures on which I based my hopes of authenticity.  Below is one example from RR Auction which I felt was similar to the cut signature above.  Based on my research, I did not find any strong comparisons with likely authentic examples of signatures for either Lorre or Veidt leading me to conclude both of these are likely not authentic.

I appreciate you sharing your expertise as I continue to try and improve my ability to distinguish between good and bad in my collection.  Thank you for your help.

"... I also was concerned these each looked like newer ink on vintage but unaged paper...."

Very important. Trust yourself. The Greenstreet looks uncomfortable IMO. See what others say.

Thank you again, Eric.  Another member of this forum made the comment about new ink and vintage paper in response to a previous post about another item.  I continue to appreciate and apply tips I pick up from reading other posts or in direct response to my posts.  I always hate bad news but view it as tuition to get better at spotting fakes.

As I said, I am prepared for bad news on both Lorre and Veidt but still hoping others may feel okay with the Greenstreet.  Either way, I am making progress with the help of you and the many others on this forum.  Thank you as always.

Thank you. Remember, you needn't buy an autograph to get opinions. "Tuition" as it is called need not cost a penny. Just post something you've found and see what happens.

Oh how I wish this group existed twenty years ago when I was doing most of my buying in this hobby.  However, I am grateful for everyone's help now as I sort through my collection to make sure my kids know what they have when it becomes theirs.  In the meantime, I am enjoying learning on this forum everyday because of members like you.  Thank you.

In my humble opinion I don't think the Greenstreet is authentic. I see new ink on old paper. Notice how the ink spreads out…i-t in with, p in pleasure, L in Leonore etc. Using a 10x loupe you might be able to see a steel nib cutting the paper. A lot of blank and partially filled autograph books are purchased by forgers to add new ink to old paper. Back in the day I saw a lot of bad autographs added to blank pages in real autograph books.

Hi David.  Thank you for your feedback.  I have spent a lot of time comparing the forms of signatures but am learning to appreciate the subtleties like new ink on old paper, etc.  I felt this compared well to the authenic example I found on RR Auction archives.  As noted above, I was optimistic on another signature which a member also pointed out was likely new ink on old paper.  Always disappointing to find questionable materials in your collection but even more disappointing when you have convinced yourself it may be genuine.

Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion on this item (and the previous items on which you commented), along with an additional dose of knowledge for me going forward.
