Greetings!!
Aquired this at a fundraiser several years ago and now I am thinking of letting it go. The COA is from a now defunct website and I am concerned I may have been mislead... but early indications are the autographs (18 in all!) are all real...? I would love to hear opinions from people here who obviously have wayyyy more experience than I do.
Many Thanks

My apologies, Cpeet. It's so unbelievable to me that he would say that the autographs looked authentic that I think it can't be. But maybe he thought he was responding to another email.
no worries, it is what it is. Maybe I will reach out to JE and ask him to reassess, given the responses here maybe he didnt really scrutinize the images but I did send him images and he did say they looked authentic... either way seems like consensus here is inauthentic. In the meantime I am attempting to get some info as to provenance from the mysterious FDA company that did the original LOA.
I appreciate the input from this group but disappointed that most of what I see here posted by various people like me all seems to be fake...
The hobby is rife with fakes and hucksters, and by and large they are allowed to deceive and defraud people without much of an outcry. For whatever reason, people dont seem to care as long as they arent the mark. And for the most part people are incredibly naive when it comes to autographs.
But to be fair, there are actual stores on the Las Vegas strip that deal exclusively in fakes. Its proven. We see their customers come here - about 1 every 6 months or so - with a big pile of fake autographs that they spent thousands on, and then we repeat this same information ad nauseam while they go through the 5 stages of grief. Its nothing new.
Charity auctions are a huge red flag. COAs without credentials and/or names behind them are misleading at best.
The takeaway here is that you have to do your homework before you spend money on autographs. What you dont know will literally bankrupt you and break your heart in the end.
Real collectors and enthusiasts agree that part of the fun is learning to spot the real ones from the fakes and its not as hard as it might seem. The more you look and the more you listen, the more you learn. Tons of good eyes here and nobody is out to steer you wrong. If anything, the blunt truth is meant to help you learn.
Good luck!
Cpeet, this happens far too much. I'm sorry it happened to you. Talk to the fundraising organization, fund out who they got it from, and I'd consider filing a crime report. Not against the organization but the company that provided it to them and the authenticator. This couldn't be more obvious a forgery for them.
And the name of the examiner isn't even on the COA!
